I wonder if she pushed when she felt like it, rather than doing "purple pushing" like hospitals do? That might explain part of the time.

EDIT: I read her story, and she said that the midwife and assistant were pretty hands off until she was five hours into pushing. At that point they said "we have some suggestions for you." So, who knows. Maybe the baby was malpositioned?

My first labor was 29 hours and my second 1 hour and 20 minutes...baby born in the car with my 3 year old in the back seat.  Very traumatic.  If you think it is going to be fast be prepared.

My 1st  was 36 hours from first contraction til her birth,I caved at 5cm for the epidural which I feel made it so long.

My 2nd was 17 hours from first contraction til his birth. It was med free.

I'm  wondering if this one will be shorter than the last or not .

Did she really!? I hadn't heard that. Good for her!

First labor: water broke....then, 30 hours of nothing....then, active labor was on me like crazy, very suddenly, 1 hour and 57 minutes later, I was holding a baby.

Second labor: water broke....then, 28 hours of nothing...then, active labor, again, on me suddenly and strong, 1 hour and 37 minutes later, holding a baby.

1st: 12 hours

2nd: 5 hours and he arrived face first (nose first)  I think if he had been in a more normal position it would have been like 3.5 hours instead winky.gif.

Same about the water breaking! For BOTH labors, water broke, then 24 hours of nothing at all. I wonder if we're at risk for the water breaking again? I found it to be very convenient! Lots of time to prepare :)

Haha CelticQueen, yeah! I'm so hoping for another labor like the last two....I had the two most lovely births and I really hope for one more beautiful homebirth! Having that time to prepare really was nice. I was hiking, cleaning, eating...but not sleeping, which is what I plan to do this time (but won't do at all). Haha YAY birth!

First time was 46+ hours

Second time 8 hours.

first-26 hours from first contraction to birth

second-42 hours from first contraction to birth

third-23 hours from first contraction to birth

all with pushing time of about 15-30 minutes

not for me. all 3 of my vaginal births were pretty much the same even though the first was induced. the two subsequent completely spontaneous and natural home births were the same length and level of intensity. all lasted about 12 hours from start to finish with about 4-5 hours of intense, active labor. pushing was actually a little longer with my last. i think because the cord was wrapped around baby's neck twice so he needed to come out more slowly and gently.

Both of my labors were 27 hours long (from first painful contraction to delivery).  However, my contractions were 10-15 minutes apart until I went into transition.  This made my labors very mellow and easy to deal with until I was nearly ready to push.

#1 - 27 hours long - 3-4 hours of really hard labor and pushing

#2 - 27 hours long - 20 minutes of hard labor and pushing

I don't think that I had any more contractions than a woman with an intense 7-8 hour labor.  Mine were simply paced out.

I'll add the length of pregnancy/child spacing info:

#!: 42.5 weeks

#2: also 42.5 weeks, 2 years later (neither was induced)

#3: 40 weeks, 2 years later

#4: 41 weeks, 4 years later

Not much of a pattern there, I guess: my babies just tend to be late.

So far that's the same with me too...

First: 41 weeks

Second: 41 and a half weeks

Really hoping this one will be early, but I'm not counting on it lol.gif Some of us women just need to cook 'em longer it seems...

I cannot imagine if that second one had gone any later though. He came out at a whopping 9 pounds. For a woman who is 5'1 and tiny, that was quite a surprise to me! Now I know, if I go overdue again, he'll probably be big again. Not complaining though, I love chubby babies love.gif

That was my first thought as well...I know every woman is different, but in my experience anyway, I didn't have to "push" at all...I just let my body do it's thing and he was out. It just sort of pushed for me, so to speak. 8 hours seems so strange to me! Guess it can happen though

DD1 - 7 hours total

DD2 - 20 hours total

DD3 - Over 70 hours total

My first two were 10-11 hours; my last three were 3-4 hours.  So, they're shorter, although my shortest was #3.

DD1 was induced at 10 days over. pit started-delivery was 17 hours (3 of that pushing) suction cup was used to help epi used

DD2 (6 days over) was augmented with pit after contracting 6 hours prior. total was 12 hours with maybe a push or two epi used

DS was induced at 10 days over and hbp. pit started-delivery 3.45 hours with a couple of pushes. no time for epi, got a quick shot of something to take edge off

DD3 (5 days over). contx started at 3am. light contx every 10 min. throughout the day till 4pm when they picked up in frequency and pain. Got to the hospital at 6:45 and she was born at 8:24. I would say active labor started around 6pm and I thought I was going to die by 7:45. no drugs So if you count from the start of contx it was 17.5 hours, but I didn't realize I was in labor until 12 hours into it.
