My 13mo son gets most of his breastmilk at night?

Is this normal? I don't mean comfort nursing/frequent nightwaking, but long, deep draining of the breast every 2 hours at night.

He has 3 solid meals a day. He probably eats a substantial amount at 1-2 of these. The rest, he just tastes/picks at his food. He rarely has juice, just sips of water with his meals. He's not a picky eater; he's easy to feed.

He does nurse a lot during the day, but they're mostly quick nursings as if for thirst or as if he's too distracted.

I guess I expected him to nurse LESS now that he's older and eating regularly. This isn't about me getting more sleep -- I'm just wondering if this is fairly normal for breastfeeding, co-sleeping toddlers, or if I'm not doing something right like too many solids/not enough solids, wrong kind of solids, wrong timing of solids, or whatever.

Normal here for my 15 month old.  She's more of a picky eater during the day, but she still LOVES to breastfeed.  I nurse her before her afternoon nap, at night/first thing in the morning and sometimes mid morning or late afternoon if she really needs it.  I recently went a night apart from her (our first) and I pumped twice, more for my comfort than anything else.  I was SHOCKED at how quickly my bottles filled up.  I guess I thought it was more of a comfort thing than a food thing.

She's my third, and the other two self weaned right around their second birthdays.  Will be interesting to see what she does.

that was the situation for us, too, b/c i WOH and at that age had stopped/ was stopping pumping during the day.  i'd say normal, and i don't think personally nightweaning is a good idea until 16 mos or until the kid can understand the concept of night and day and sleeping boobies, etc.

Thanks for your replies! I feel better. I was just worried that he wasn't getting proper nutrition in the day or something.

Just curious...  Do you offer your breast before he eats solids during the day?  My LO nursed a ton day and night at that age, but offering before solids during the day may help with the night.

Thanks, I will try that!

I made a point of always offering the breast before solids when he was under 1. Now I don't really think about it, but I should.
