AIDS and vax my kids

A family member we see relativity often has just been diagnosed with AIDS. I'm not worried about the kids catching a blood virus, but should I be worried about what this family member could be carrying? Or should I consider Vaxing to protect this family member from something?

I'm just really new to this whole world and am not sure how to handle the health end of things in this regard....

Have they been diagnosed with AIDS or HIV? What criteria did they use for the diagnosis?  I ask because there are several different definitions of the disease, depend on the country.

There is a documentary that I watched the other night called House Of Numbers from Netflix.  Before I gave my children any shots that may or may not help them, I would want to know more facts about your family members health and what led to the diagnosis .  Plus, your children having recent vaccinations may put them more at risk for those deceases.

Your children will likely be more dangerous to your family member than the family member will be to you.

Yeah, that is what I was going to say too. I dont think its any more likely that someone with HIV/AIDS would be carrying anything anymore than anyone else, but the likelihood of one of your children unknowingly carrying something and passing it to this relative is way higher. Kids share germs between one another all the time (which is okay, until that is then introduced to a person who is immune deficient).

AIDS, full blown, under every definition.

They were very very sick, almost died, numbers just around 100...The family member is using term HIV, but its not. They didn't know until now.

I have only just now given DS1 one dose DTaP.

This is what I was afraid of, but I doubt the person will understand that, which is what I was thinking about possible vax for somethings they could carry...but I don't really know. I can't think straight. this was really out of the blue. This person was totally healthy until a few months ago.

I very much think the person who has AIDS is going to understand that your children pose a threat to their immune system. Almost every medical professional will warn them against coming into close contact with kids, people in the medical profession, and large crowds of people.

Don't have much advice to give, but wanted to say I'm sorry and this must be very stressful news. I wish all the best to you and your family member.

When my parent had cancer and had chemo and radiation we all were extremely careful, got the seasonal flu vaccine, and washed hands constantly. Even so we were all very worried about him.

....not so much. Trust me, they were within hours of dying (said DR) when family finally took him to the hospital (after 3 months of deterioration (dh and I weren't around to see since DS2 had just been born)) and that was after they had stopped breathing in the middle of the night, then said I'm fine, they still waited until the next morning. Just Stupidity not uncaring...(and its not like this person wanted to go either)

I really doubt anyone gets the real gravity of the situation, in fact we had to convince them not to come to DS1 B-day party less than a week after 5 months in hospital and still not truly mobile (and on oxygen) AND people have still been in and out of their house since.

I feel like its really going to fall on Dh and I when it comes to our kids...It is stressful.
