Tips for removing smoke smell from my rental

We just moved into a rental and the last tenants clearly smoked in the garage, and of course the smell lingered throughout that side of the house.  This is a real temporary move for a us, so I'm looking a some low cost methods.  I know they won't completely eliminate it, but just some things that will help would be nice.  Any type of natural cleaners, homemade cleaners, essential oils, or house plants that would be especially helpful.  Would wiping down the walls help?  With what?

Apparently vinegar on walls.

Baking soda to absorb odours.

Spider plants/gerberas to filter air?

Ozone purifiers are the only thing that will truly remove the odor.
You can find them for fairly low prices on Ebay.
They are 100% safe.

You can rent a commercial one and leave the house for a few hours while it works as well.

Borax or baking soda with some essential oil will work as a carpet deodorizer. I usually sprinkle it on a night, and vacuum up in the morning. It is temporary, but it works. If you need to paint at all, Kilz primer will usually help to stop the yellow seepage that smoking causes in humid areas.

Unused cofee gets the smoke smell out of cars really well.  I would wash all the walls and the carpet with just about anything too.  And I know this is pretty out there but spraying vodka on my son's hockey gear gets the stink out and that stuff smells baaaaaad

White vinegar set out in bowls will get rid of the smell.
