extreme hunger and gaining 10 lbs in two weeks normal?!

HI Everyone!

So I'm on my second pregnancy and so far it's COMPLETELY different from my first and it's starting to worry me.  With my daughter, who is only a year old, I was SO SICK the first trimester I couldn't keep anything down, and didn't start showing until month 7 when I then got massive and gained 60 lbs.  But now I'm only 7 weeks and I'm starving, absolutely starving, with hardly any nausea at all!  I've gained 10 lbs in the last two weeks, and although I'm eating a lot, it's not junk at all, just large quantities and I can't go longer than 2 hrs without eating something.  Is this normal so early?  Should I be worried about the weight I'm gaining?   THANKS!!!

Just a lowly doula here - but it sounds to me like your body may be a little taxed from the previous pregnancy and is compensating by craving more food now.  Not everyone feels bad during the first trimester.  AND eating every 2 hours is actually recommended as long as it is healthy snacks, not junk food or diet food.  LOTS of protein.  Are you taking a good prenatal?  300-500 extra calories per day is in the normal range of pregnancy eating as I understand it.  Gainning suddenly, like you did last time is probably less common than gaining right off.  NOW, if you have very swollen hands, face - headaches, spots before your eyes, etc.  That could be a serious sign, but I don't think anything you're talking about is anything to stress about.  Be sure you're drinking lots of water - the intake requirements are huge...and one sign of dehydration is a feeling of hunger.

Another lady was talking about this empty raging pit inside her a few weeks ago.  It turned out she needed more protein and fat.  Maybe that would help?

I've only got one pregnancy worth of experience, but in my first trimester protein was the only thing that would make me feel full. I had no morning sickness but eating any kind of carbs just made me feel very blah. I was eating a lot butactually lost weight rather than gaining (though I was quite overweight to start with).
