DD gets red splotches on her head when she eats.

DD is almost 6 months and when she eats solids, she gets red splotches on the sides of her head, from just above her ears up to almost the top of her head. They last for about half an hour and only happens with solids. When she's nursing it doesn't happen. It's the weirdest thing. It happens with both warm and cold food and doesn't happen with things like finger foods (puffs and the like), only spoon-fed food.

Anybody seen anything like this? It doesn't seem to bother DD, so I'm not terribly worried about it, just curious.

maybe look at the ingredients of the spoon fed food, look for some with only a single ingredient and nothing added and feed those for a few days and see if it still happens. if it stops then maybe there is a issue with an ingredient, if it still happens with a few different single item foods, hmm i dont know?

It happens every time, with multiple kinds of food. It doesn't appear to be a rash or hives, just splotches.

Mine does this too.  He gets splotches on his face around his mouth where food actually touches, but he also gets some re-appearing splotches in the same spot on his forehead.  It's the oddest thing. 

I've also noticed the splotch when he gets stressed, it's the oddest thing.

I just figured he has sensitive skin...

Is she maybe silently gagging or something akin to that? The reason I ask is that my DD1 still gets splotches that go from the corners of her eyes back into her hairline and up her scalp when her eyes tear (she is 5). So if she has a massive tantrum and cries, she gets splotches/welts. Or if she gets something in her eyes. Or if she coughs too hard. Or if it is cold or windy making her eyes water.  She is very fair-skinned, and her skin has done this since infancy.  Just a thought...
