"New" pie ideas?

I've been spending time trying to brainstorm some 'other' pie ideas for upcoming fall/winter holidays.

Here's what we usually have:

MIL's cinnamon-only pumpkin pie (sometimes I do one with chocolate too, or with more spice also)

Apple pie

Maple-pecan tart

Anything else out there that goes real well besides apple, pumpkin, pecan?  MIL has does a custard pie before, and I suppose I did a lemon tart once too and BIL did a sweet potato pie.  Is that really all there is that's traditional?  We only had one single pie at Thanksgiving last year, and this year there'll be 2 celebrations, so I want to have a bit more variety (and specifically more-pies-ish, I felt very denied last year).

I'd love something egg and nut free, if possible, so dd2 can eat something (I don't think she'll eat the apple pie, and maybe not pumpkin either. . . but she's 18 mo and doesn't eat that much of anything in the first place, so it's not real crucial).

Mincemeat is one of my favourites for the holidays. I don't think it appeals to many small children, though.

Banoffee is one of my favorites!

This pear and cranberry pie looks good. It's egg and nut-free too!

This is super, super, super easy, and tastes amazing.  Do NOT forget the almond extract.

I had this

the other day at a friend's party.  It was DELICIOUS.  She put whipped cream on top, and sprinkled seat salt on each piece as she was serving it.

I had this "updated pumpkin" pie with a layer of candied pecans and a creamy layer as well--going to try and fin the recipe for Thanksgiving this year!

Ooooh! - yummy everyone.  Some good recipes/ideas to weigh in for me.  As well as cheesecake, which occurred to me later (and is always fantastic and goes with everything).

Not sure how traditional it is, but I always like to offer a chocolate icebox pie with a graham cracker crust. The fruit pies don't appeal to everyone, and chocolate is a nice treat.

Another nice winter pie is shoofly pie, which has a molasses filling and crumb topping. Molasses certainly doesn't appeal to everyone, but for those that like it it's positively addicting.

I used to pick wild cranberries in a bog in northern PA. I found recipes for cranberry-apple and cranberry other things but I wanted to make just cranberry. Since they are quite tart I adapted a recipe for rhubarb (also tart) pie from my old Betty Crocker Cookbook since I didn't want it to be too sour to eat. It turned out absolutely wonderful. I've made it several times since. My family loves pie. We usually have blueberry, cherry, apple, mince, pumpkin, pecan, lemon meringue, cocoanut custard. We freeze fruit in the summer in recipe amounts for jam and pies and then do the cooking when the weather cools down.

Sugar pie!  Nothing like it, decadent, cheap, egg and nut free.  Here's a link to the most bonafide recipe I saw, just like my Quebecois grandmother's:

We always had mincemeat pie for the holidays - it was my dad's favorite.

My mom also made chocolate chess pie.  It doesn't seem very 'fallish', but we often had it for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

My dad made apple slices for Thanksgiving.  I liked it better than apple pie.

I once misunderstood my husband's request and made a pumpkin pie with molasses as the primary sweetener. It came out tasting not a whole lot like pumpkin, but awfully good! Pumpkin pie in texture, more like a molasses cookie in flavor.

That sounds really good to me since I'm totally a molasses lover. I may try it out.

I made a cherry and pear pie recently which turned out really well (contest winning, even!)  I could approximate the recipe if someone were interested.  ;-)
