Research Question: What kind of knowledge do you seek about nutrition during pregnancy??

Hi all,

I'm just curious as to what kind of questions you have about nutrition during pregnancy? For instance, do you wonder what vitamins and minerals you need, how best to get them, what to cook, how to cook it...? What foods will aid delivery, recovery postpartum, breastfeeding afterwards,...?

In other words, what kinds of nutrition related knowledge do you seek out, read about the most, or are just interested in the mose? I'm doing research and need a hand! Thanks!

Possible questions:

What are good foods to eat during first trimester puking? Are there things known to be helpful or especially useful to maintain nutrition and health while loosing (unintended) weight? sour feels good, protein loading feels good too? How much protein is too much?

What are easy things to digest when the digestive track slows down - fiber does nothing for me.

What are good things to eat when diarrhea hits you?

Are there foods aiding healing after a strenuous labor? What minerals are important to avoid PPD?

What to eat to avoid nausea?

What to eat if you are vegan?

Do you really have to avoid xyz?

What to avoid if you don't want to gain over 50lbs?

How to eat, exercise, lose weight and continue nursing on demand?

This is my first pregnancy and here are questions I had and ended up researching thoroughly before I made my own conclusions (with the guidance of my midwife, of course!):

What is off limits?

What natural remedies can help nausea/a cold/constipation/a sore throat.

How much fish/seafood can I safely eat each week?

Can I have caffeine to ward off a headache?

Can I continue to drink all my teas? Which ones are off limits?

What is the best prenatal?

What other supplements will I need besides the prenatal vitamin?

How much weight do I need to gain week by week?

As I've stated, I have not delivered yet, but I plan/hope to breastfeed and here are questions I intend to ask about this:

How many extra calories do I need?

What types of foods, besides alcohol and caffeine, will need to be pumped and dumped?

How long after eating the above foods do I have to keep dumping the milk out?

What can I eat to keep my milk supply going strong?

Hope all this helps! :)

I closely look into anything that I'm not supposed to eat, but my intuition tells me I should be eating. E.g. liver. So I read up (through google scholar and my uni library access) on WHY liver is not recommended in pregnancy, and then weigh that research (results as well as methods and validity) against opposing research on nutritional value. I get a lot of sources through weston price.

Otherwise, I generally stick to the nutrition guidelines that I researched for myself before I was pregnant. That is, many proteins, varied vegetables, whole fruits, limited breads/pastas/rice, and no sugar drinks or other sugary items. That's the guide.
