Astraia, what is Rescue Remedy?  I'm having irritability issues too and it's driving me (and probably my family) crazy.  Little kid noises drive me nuts right now.

Name: roxi

Weeks/Day along: 12 weeks tomorrow! or maybe it was 12 weeks Wednesday; they doctor originally thought May 5 but the hospital today said May 2. We told some friends and family already but I am excited to announce on FB

Appointments: We had an NT scan done today--this time the baby was moving around! So amazing to see it flipping about and raising its arms. Heart rate 162. We had to go to a hospital about 45 minutes away because they don't do the scan at the one here in town or at my OB's office. I have a prenatal appointment with the OB next Friday, but after that I think I am going to switch to he practice's midwife.

Symptoms: Nothing much really. Sometimes I feel strange little popping feelings in my belly. I'm not showing at all, which seems odd after looking at people's belly pictures :) I'm tall & thin so I'd expected to show a little by now. I guess not.

Food: It's fall! I'm craving pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, apple cider, soups, baked squash... pomegranates! Last weekend I went to California (we live in Ohio) for a conference and I ate like 8 pomegranates. Oh, and Greek yogurt is tasting awesome.

Exercise: I really want to do my Wii routine but we still have no TV (we just moved here and we had a small crappy tv before that we got rid of; husband is a professor who studies media and he gets a tv as part of research funding and all he has to do is tell the department secretary which one he wants, but he hasn't. We also still have no couch (it comes Nov 12)--I am sick of sitting on the floor & watching movies on my laptop! Ha. Anyhow, I walk a lot, about 1/2 mile to campus & back to teach 3 days a week. Missing Colorado & all the hiking we used to do here. I guess there are places here to hike but we've been too busy to explore much.

Body changes and other milestones: nothing much, i don't really feel nauseated anymore

Thoughts: My mom got this giant giraffe for the baby room (now my office, but I'll move that to an empty bedroom downstairs). Every time I walk in there I see the giraffe & it scares me, it's almost person sized. I'm looking forward to go to see my family in Ca after Xmas (we're spending it with husband's family in Minnesota) and looking at my baby book and thrifting for baby clothes with my mom.

It's flower essences, basically (so think homeopathics) geared towards relieving stress and providing calm. Whenever I'm feeling strung out I can take some and I instantly feel better. I was thinking maybe placebo, but I gave some to my mom and sister and brother in a bit of water, without telling them anything, when they were all feeling monstrously stressed and they all calmed down within 1-2 minutes of taking it to the point where they asked what was in the water and all went out and bought their own bottles. I find I need to want to be calm (you know how you can hold onto anger sometimes, you sort of get caught up into it?) because I need to be in the headspace where I WANT to feel relaxed, it works so well that even if I feel like being angry or stressed or whatever- I can't once I've taken it. Does that make any sense?

I took it a LOT when my second was born and both kids mostly cried all day every day, some days I think it's the only thing that kept me sane.

I haven't tried the other remedies, but I hear they are pretty effective.

I am totally skeptical when it comes to homeopathics, but *do* love Rescue Remedy!  It works for my family, too!

Rescue Remedy sounds great - I think I'm going to give it a try. I was pretty low on patience today and could have used a de-stresser :-)

Life without a furnace is going better than expected. DH bought a ton of firewood from a guy on craigslist and has kept a fire going in the fireplace -- as long as we all wear socks and long sleeves it is pretty comfortable in here. We do have a little electric space heater if it gets too cold, but we've been getting by with the fireplace the past couple nights.

Roxi, how neat to see baby flipping and moving!! ...also your post made me want pumpkin pie and cider- I love fall foods!

I really need some advice. Whatever is happening has gotten way worse. The doctor I saw on Wednesday gave me a prescription for an antibiotic, which I was going to start taking once they cultured the urine (to make sure I have the right medicine to fight whatever organism that's causing this). In the meantime, I took d-mannose, drank tons of unsweetened cranberry juice and water, and took probiotics. I called the doctors office on Friday and she told me that the test came back... negative. No UTI. The doctor says it's probably just my uterus pressing on my bladder. This makes absolutely no sense - I have all the classic UTI symptoms. She told me not to take the antibiotics. I wasn't going to take that particular one anyway because I read that it was linked to birth defects, but now she won't prescribe me anything different.

I've had this UTI (or whatever it is) for six days now. This seems pretty dangerous. It definitely feels like it's getting worse, not better. I'm listening to my midwife and drinking some uva ursi tea tonight to see if it helps. Otherwise, I'm at a loss. I can't even walk without being really, really uncomfortable now, and I constantly need to be near the toilet, so we can't really go anywhere or do anything. This is definitely worse than all the first trimester nausea. Please share any ideas you might have. I'll try anything at this point.

Yikes maryam, that sounds scary.

A friend of mine gets frequent kidney and bladder stones, which in her case have similar symptoms as a UTI. Unfortunately she starts to feel the effects of them before they show up on a scan so she has to spend a lot of time convincing her doctors that she does in fact have one.

Bladder stones are much much more common in men, but it might be worth checking out.

Also check out http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001508/ , interstitial cystitis, which is a chronic condition often mistaken for UTI. Since you don't get frequent UTIs it's less likely that's what's going on, but it's worth reading about.

Thank you so much. I will look into both of those. They both seem unlikely, since we had sex exactly 12 hours before this mess started, but that might have been a coincidence because what I have sounds a lot like cystitis. The last time I had a UTI was over 7 years ago, the first time I had unprotected sex, so it seems like they might be related :( Last time I drank a bottle of cranberry juice and it went away within a day, but no luck this time.

I know you are also experiencing pain, but if I am bloated during pregnancy, it can make me go a lot.  The gas in there pushes on the bladder and makes it feel urgent.  Also, sometimes I would feel like I just couldn't go, no matter how bad I needed to.  Something about the baby's position was messing things up.  It turned out I had to lean WAY forward and then I could usually go.  Sometimes it would even hurt at the beginning...kind of like the feeling of a deep bruise, but yet a bit of a sharp pain.

It could just be a pregnancy annoyance, and maybe a slight change in diet will help, not because you have cystis, but because of the digestive issues I mentioned.  And also, trying in different positions might help.

And, lastly, have you considered a yeast infection?  Or bv?

It would surprise me if you went from no symptoms at all to internal cystitis. I'm surprised your culture came back negative too.

Could you do oil of oregano? I'm not sure about safety in pregnancy, but it's known as "nature's antibiotic" (and they recommend you take a probiotic when you take it because it does kill off your gut flora) but I know it works well with a lot of people for things they don't want to take an antibiotic for.

Any chance you have a sperm allergy? I know 2 people who have moderate to severe reactions. I get a rash erm, below every time we DTD without a condom. Some sort of localized reaction/infection that mimics a UTI?

Hi Maryamrose. Just wanted you to know that I'm struggling with the same thing. I was already treated for a UTI at 7 weeks, then for BV. I was fine for a few weeks after that, but am now having a lot of bladder and vaginal discomfort. All of my tests and cultures have come back negative. I'm taking something called FemDophilus as well as cranberry in pill form, which I highly recommend over juice. These two combined with drinking tons of emergen-C has helped somewhat.

Hi Everyone. Happy to read everyone's updates, and sorry for a few of your news.

We just got back from our holiday, we went camping with a group for the week. We had so much fun! I don't think I have ever seen the kids happier. :)

Since getting back, I have been plagued with tiredness. I'll just be sitting there and pass out asleep. It has been constant the last couple days. I suppose the trip took more out of me than I realized!

I'll be 12 weeks on tuesday :) Yay!

My first real midwife appointment is sometime in the first week of November. I am excited for that.

Hmm...Ordered my herbs and some press n brew bags from mountrain rose, and my homeopathics (arnica and belladonna) from 1800homeopathy. My birthball came in the mail. I also have ordered a set of ear candles. My ears are so itchy they are driving me nuts!

I'm tired, and 'full' feeling. I think I have felt little flutters down there that is the baby. :)

I am enjoying this pregnancy so far.

Welcome back, OneMore!

I am also wondering if I am feeling the baby now?  It's a very familiar feeling, and I don't think it's gas, but maybe?  Dh says I always say that and then it always turns out it was the baby, so?  I am really, really wanting to know if this baby is a boy or a girl.  Really a lot.  I am considering an u/s just for that reason.  Is that silly?  I just want to be able to think one way or the other the whole time.  I think I should just be patient.  I am happy knowing that whoever is in there is who we are supposed to have, and that negates any wants or feelings I have.  I am really content with that idea.

Also, is any one else reading birth stories?  I am stalking the October/November ddc just hoping to catch a new story, and I've read just about all of the first two pages in the birth story forum.  Sigh. New babies.  But, now I'm thinking about birth, and, while I still hold my cavalier view, how I kinda don't want to do it.  I know I won't mind in the moment, and it wont' be that big of a deal, but...I just don't want to.  Oh well.  I always feel that way, and it always passes.

And, no matter how many healthy babies you have after a loss, you just really never forget.  I had 2 m/c before our first.  I've had 4 babies since then, and I am still jumpy at every little thing.  It's so hard to be patient.  I just want to get to 15 weeks or so.  I'll feel better after that point.

Maryam ~ Would your doctor be willing to do another culture? It just really surprises me that with all those symptoms it came back negative! I have heard that taking apple cider vinegar (like a shot in a shot glass!) helps with UTIs in addition to cranberry juice. I've never been able to try it though because I think I'd probably throw up!

Onemore and 1More ~ wow, movement already? I wish I could feel flutters!! I can't wait to feel my little one move!

Just1More ~ I am getting super curious about the gender too. If DH didn't want the surprise so bad, I think I'd be leaning toward an ultrasound to find out -- we are already planning a 20 week ultrasound just to make sure everything looks normal and to be prepared if anything turns out to be out of the ordinary, but at this point we are not planning to find out the gender until the birth. Such a long wait!!

I am feeling pretty good today. This might be TMI, but has anyone else been having, like, a lot of CM? I have been considering wearing a panty liner because I've got so much of it! It's clear and like egg-white fertile mucus. Doesn't smell like anything, doesn't itch,  so I'm not at all worried about an infection ...I never had this much when I was TTC and really paying attention to it.

I've got gingerbread in the over and am about to start a fire in the fireplace and plant myself on the couch for the rest of the night :-)

I wanted to wait to find out the gender, but I've already caved.  lol  We'll get an u/s probably about 20 weeks, to determine the gender.  I would find out right now if I could.  I'm so weak.  lol

As for the CM, I have a ton of it too.  I actually did start wearing panty liners last week.  It's just like you described most of the time.  Sometimes it's just creamy, or watery.

Your gingerbread and fireplace sounds delightful!  :)  I can't wait to have a house with a fireplace.  That's the #1 non-negotiable feature!  lol
