BABY BOO'S BIRTH STORY

10/16/11

Saphira Arya June

The night before October 15th I didn't sleep well (which isn't uncommon for this point in the pregnancy). On October 15th (I was 39 weeks 1 day) I woke up and just felt off. Nothing going on, just felt a little different. I went about my day as normal. At 4 pm I was getting ready to go to a Yoga for birth class and was pretty excited. I went to the bathroom before I headed out the door and noticed some pink tinged mucus. Just as I was getting up I noticed I was leaking amniotic fluid. I debated wether or not to go to the yoga class and finally decided to go. I started feeling one big surge at about 5:30 and it lasted most of the class. I called the midwife and she decided to come over to the house and check me. I got home just a few minutes before she did. When she checked me I was a 4/5 and she decided to stay. She checked the babies heartbeat and everything was good.

Things seemed to be going slowly and I would have long spaces in between the surges. When I got in the birth pool everything slowed. (that had never happened to be before). I was starting to get frustrated. I usually like to be surrounded by all the family and lots of busyness during labor but that was NOT working this time. I went to my room for a bit and that helped me to get centered. Then DH and I went on a walk. The surges really picked up until I got back into the tub and then they petered out again. I noticed that every time dh left the room they stopped. So he had to stick around;).

We sent everyone to bed around 11:30 and the midwife decided to rest her eyes on the couch. DH and I watched an episode of Sopranos on HBO GO and towards the end the surges started picking up again.     At about 1:30 I started feeling ocassionally pushy. I was having huge gaps inbetween the surges. Finally I felt the baby moving down and sent dh to go get ds 1 as we had promised to wake him up. Oooops. I felt her head come out and then her body. I hollored for DH but he didn't hear me. Midwife hopped right up and came in. Dh, ds, and various others came around the corner to me and the baby in the tub. She was healthy and doing great. She was covered in vernix and I haven't ever had that happen before.  I was so relieved to have her here safe and sound. Dh hopped in the tub with me and held the baby as best he could. The cord was really short. Finally I birthed the placenta and put it in a bowl so dh could hold her. I nursed her but then I was chilled so got out of the tub andheaded to bed. Dh and ds 1 got to cut the cord.

They brought her to me and the entire family climbed into bed and got to hold her, etc. We finally put all the kids back to bed about 4am.  She is doing great and the entire family is in love.

Name to come soon.
