Looking for VBAC midwife. - PG County

I live in Southern MD and am looking for a midwife to support me for VBAC. I prefer not to deliver in a hospital if possible. I am open to homebirth or birth center. Any suggestions would be appreciated

The Birth Options Alliance website is a good place to start. (http://www.birthoptionsalliance.org/MidwifeList.pdf)

The ACNM site also has a search section called 'Find a Midwife': http://www.midwife.org/rp/find.cfm

Good luck with your search!

From what I am seeing, it looks like I am being left with few choices as it relates to VBAC. Looks like most practice push toward delivering in a hospital. I suppose I am not completely against a hospital birth but I would prefer to avoid it. I will keep looking. Any information you all can provide would be appreciated

Have you contacted the BirthCare practice? I'm not sure where in S MD you live, but they're based out of Alexandria and have a rather wide radius of home birth clients. My second suggestion would be Susan Dodge (CNM that does home births) but she's a bit north of you probably.

I just sent an email to both of those. Thanks a lot. I am in Ft Washington so Alexandria is very close.

Susan Dodge doesn't usually do VBACs. I did speak with her and she is really very nice and was very honest about how she felt. I appreciated her honesty and understood.

BirthCare does not do VBACs either. They accepted me as a patient before our move to the area understanding that this pregnancy would be a VBAC after a VBAC. Then when we moved they told me that their policies had changed and they no longer did any VBACs at all, even after a prior VBAC. Their website still lists the possibility of VBAC if it is after a vaginal birth and not directly after a c-section.

I actually e-mailed them and asked them if their policies had changed or if their website was not up to date. They said their website is not up to date.

There are, unfortunately, not many options for VBAC at home or birth center in this area. After a very bad experience with a homebirth midwife, I am going to VBAC in our hospital with a midwife from a birth center. I was not able to find any birth centers who would let me VBAC there, even with a history of an uncomplicated VBAC and a healthy pregnancy. :/

Another midwife currently has a suspended license, though I am not sure why. The other one was Karen W, but she's very close to Delaware and far from you.I did hear good things about the midwives at GWU, but they don't take clients after 32 weeks, I was told, and are booking into December now I think, if I recall correctly.

Good luck in your search. I hope you find more options than I was able to!

M.A.M.A.S does a very tight radius, I have heard, but I have heard good things about them.

I'm using Bay Area Midwifery right now, planning to birth in the local hospital. Very happy with the practice.
