I'm curious if any of you out there are planning on doing this ultrasound? I'm having pretty mixed feelings about it. I am 32 and this is my first baby. The OBGYN (who I am planning to transfer from) gave me a script for the scan at my last appointment. I asked her if it was because I was high risk, and she said no, but it was standard. My apprehension is:
1. I have already had three scans (two that were less than 3 min, and one that was about 20min), and I don't want to expose the baby if its not necessary.
2. I am reading that these tests are in no way diagnostic, and have a high false positive reading, which can cause a lot of stress.
3. No mater the result, I wouldn't do the Amino or CVS test as a follow up, I feel that this baby is our baby, no matter who they are, and wouldn't do anything to risk miscarriage.
The only reason I am considering it, is that the longer ultrasound indicated that I have a cyst on my ovary (the one I ovulated from) so I don't know if they need to monitor that before the baby gets too big to see it. It's also to see the baby developing. But I'm also not sure if it would be better to know if the baby were going to have Down Syndrome in advance so one could prepare, or if it could just cause a lot of undue stress, if the results are false.
Do any of you have any thoughts or experience with this?
