Mind Body Therapy

Hi all-

About five months ago, I gave birth to my first child, a son. I planned a homebirth, but after 3 days of labouring at home, I ended up in the hospital with a C-section.

I had a wonderfully supportive midwifery team, but my experience of the whole thing was just heartbreaking. I am still struggling with coming to peace with a birth that was less than what I hoped for. I often experience pain in my abdomen and scar area. I also battled severe post-partum depression and anxiety.

I have begun to wonder if MindBody therapy might be a good option. I have read that people hold tension and trauma in the body, and can be taught to release it.

Has anyone had experience with this therapy? Would I be a good candidate, you think? If anyone can share their experience, I would love it!

Hi! I have not specifically done that therapy, but wanted to reply. I think anything that you are able to release mental energy back out and apply it to physical ails would be beneficial. If you are feeling you need it, you should find something in that area or the area of birth trauma therapy. I wish you lots of healing in heart and body. You are awesome just for who ya are and what you did.

Partaria, I'd like to start off by telling you that you are strong and powerful, and your birth experience was just the first beautiful part of you childs life story. Congrats on becoming a mom! I labored at home for 24 hours before heading to the hospital (I had planned to UC), and then spent another 6 hours there laboring naturally before I was given an epidural and pitocin. The birth was vaginal, but the experience was still very far off what I had hoped for. I feel your disappointment, abdc I fight feeling like a failure every day...my heart goes out to you.
I actually did IBP for three years, and had just stopped seeing my therapist when I found out I was pregnant. I have mild scoliosis and siatica, both of which caused me pain, that all, but completely stopped hurting after my first or second session. I also lost about 15 lbs in the first month. I believe this type of therapy is extraordinarily healing, and I would definitely encourage you to try it out.

Good luck, mama

I would recommend Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy to you. Regular craniosacral therapy is only the bodywork element, but Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy intentionally works with the emotional and psychological realms of bodywork as well. Depending on the training school of your therapist, it can also be called SomatoEmotional Release.

I am a former counselor myself, and have had many opportunities to do deep psychological work over the years. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is by far the most powerful, gentle, and aligned work I have had the opportunity to do. I recommend it without reservation.

Craniosacral therapy alone will help with the pain in your pelvis, and involving the emotional aspect will deepen the work to further resolution.

Hope this helps, mama! You will find what you need, no matter what form it comes in.
