EWCM but negative OPK results?!

Thread Starter

Hi, I'm new to the site and wondering if anyone can advise.

Apologies if this has already been asked elsewhere or I've broken any kind of forum etiquette!

I am being investigated for infertility. My cycle is very irregular and very long (around 43-50 days). It's always been irregular but only in the last year become much longer.

Any way, the doctor has tested for progesterone in my blood and the results would indicate I'm not ovulating.

However, I definitely get EWCM and have always done so, yet OPK indicate negatives always. Is it possible to have EWCM and not be ovulating? If so, what could this mean?

Grateful if anyone can help. Thanks!

Yes. you can have EWCM and not ovulate.  This usually happens to women with PCOS.  EWCM is the result of high levels of estrogen...Your estrogen levels rise just before you ovulate.  EWCM is just a possible sign of ovulation, it doesn't confirm it.  If you google it you may find a better explanation than what I just gave you. It's been a while since I looked it up.

Have you tested with OPKs for ovulation?  They can help give you a better idea of what might be going on.  :)
