What do you with your no-baby time? « Back to Group Discussions

I am sitting here in the living room while my mother has the baby for an hour or so. I have a zillion things I should be doing, but we had a horribly fussy day and both of us cried for most of it, so after I showered (to wash off the curdled breast milk smell of three days), and picked up a little, and put a load of MY wash in (as opposed to diapers and baby clothes)... now (instead of writing the ten page paper that's due on Friday, or completing any number of additional homework assignments), I am watching Saturday Night Fever on the TV Guide channel and messing around on Mothering... I almost feel guilty about this, but I am just about too tired to care.

What do you do when someone else takes the baby for a minute or two? If that ever happens for you...

I am totally not making fun, I remember those times.  If I were you I would totally sleep!!! I have 2 other kids so if it isn't one of them needing something, it's all three!  hehehe

I usually internet or read in the free time I get, when the baby is sleeping or my husband is looking after him.. I'm OCD with the housework, so I usually tidy and clean as I go so I can actually sit down and relax when the chance presents itself. A couple times of week my husband offers to let me have a 30-45 minute bath with a good book too, and I take him up on it every time! And yeah, I'm a first timer too. :-) I will cherish this setup because I know if we have another child that will never happen again!

Every night I have a few hours to sleep. I..sleep. I also shove food into my mouth and brush my teeth. Sometimes I go sit with my partner and the baby though because I miss them! Once I get up I take ten minutes to pump for next time.

I tried a few nights without pumping and taking a break and I was a complete mess.

Ha, you are funny. I also SHOVE food in my mouth. Although I do sometimes have chances to eat without baby nursing at the same time (I have this visual of the calories going in, and the calories going out!) it is usually just as the baby is winding up for a good cry, so I eat as fast as I physically can. Usually my baby free time is spent hanging out with my other two kids.

I get coffee. BIG cup of Starbucks black drip...I've earned the caffiene!!

The shoving of the food seem to be a popular pastime!  I shove food that requires 2 hands when I have no-baby time!  Lately I've also been writing out thank you notes, veg out on Facebook, and shower!  Oh yeah and laundry (not so fun...)

 I also nurse while I eat - calories going in and out...love it! my favorite not baby time activity - showering or sometimes, a bath.
