Baby Eater was born January 3rd in the wee hours of morning, one day shy of his due date, after a pretty easy 5 hours of labor at the birth center. 8 pounds, 21 inches, and hungry all the time. And after nine months of dreaming this kid was a girl, he turned out to be a boy after all. Also: gorgeous :)

I know everyone says short labors are a blessing, and I have no other birth experiences to compare this one to, but...  2nd stage was something like 30 minutes, tops. His whole head, shoulders, and body all came out in one push. The whole experience was a lot easier than I'd been led to believe, but the speed at which it all happened made me feel like I'd been run over by a freight train. I'm grateful, but I have to wonder if maybe I could have avoided the stitches and the weird feeling of shock if the kid hadn't been in such a hurry to exit.

Edit to add link to birth story

From what I've heard, short labors are pretty intense. My first was really long, but I also experienced that feeling of shock because we didn't think she was coming out yet and then all of a sudden she was about the crown (posterior and she flipped). All of my feelings immediately surrounding the birth are full of the shock that I was in. Now, nearly 3 years later, I'm able to look at it from a different perspective, but I did feel mourning that the birth wasn't how I expected. It's alright to mourn the birth you wanted, even if you end up with a healthy baby or drug-free birth or anything else you wanted. People try to discount the mother's need to work through the birth, but it's very important that you do work through it. It's totally alright to be upset.

Also, congrats mama!

Congrats!  Welcome, baby Eater!

I flew through my son's transition and both my kids were out by the fourth push.  As you can imagine...massive damage and a ton of stitches.  I feel your pain, lady!

My due date was actually Feb. 3 so I've been posting some on both boards.

My son was born Jan. 19th at 3:48am 7 lbs 5 oz 19 1/4in.

My water broke at 11:30pm. Contractions started at midnight. I called the midwife at 1:50 to tell her to come thinking she's probably be sleeping on the couch. Then I texted the doula at 2:15 and told her she could head over too. The doula got here at 3 and the midwife at 3:10. He was born in the bathtub at 3:48.
