Emailing Potential Midwives?

When you are starting out looking for a home birth midwife, IF you email them, what kind of information are you asking them?

I am newly pregnant with my third child and will be looking for the first time for a home birth midwife.  After searching the internet and combing through threads, I've picked up a lot of names of midwives that interest me and would like to contact a couple.  I'm not against using a telephone, it's just fairly chaotic in my house 99% of the time (and I'm fairly awkward and shy on the phone LOL) and would like to contact them via email before calling to set up a face-to-face interview.

What kind of questions are appropriate to ask in an email?

And one, slightly off topic question here.  I've read tons about a handful of midwives whose names come up repeatedly as recommended midwives, but I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge or experience with Aly Folin (North Star Midwifery)?

Thanks so much, in advance!

Aly is great! I really like her a lot and I think she is fantastic at births. Definitely interview her!

As far as emailing potential midwives, I think that you might find a lot of them who will say "Give me a call!" It is really hard to get to know someone enough over email to gauge their personality. Basic questions you could ask would be: Are you available? Where are you located? Do you work with another midwife? How far along will I be when prenatals start?

In depth questions could be saved for the interviewing process. We have so many great midwives here in the twin cities.

Try talking with Merrily Daly, www.onlinemidwife.com. She can give you great recommendations, from her 30+ years experience in hospitals and homebirth situations.  She is a registered nurse and certified midwife, and delivered my two children, but she also does consulting via email, skype, or phone (which is what I think would be great for you).  She is so knowledgable, and lovable all in one.  Please pass the word on about her website!  I am so happy with how much she helped during my pregnancy, that I am taking the time to go on these forums I never did before and share with others!

Aloha!
