Thrush...oh my!

So...WeeMan and I have thrush :(.  We're waiting to get in at the doctor's right now because we have to call each morning and hope they have a cancellation.  Is there anything I can do for his bottom (he isn't having oral symptoms as of now, only on his rear end)?  What about my nipples?  Is there anything over-the-counter that we can use until we get a prescription, or is it best to wait?  I'm just in some major pain :(

I'm so sorry you've got thrush...I hope it clears up quickly! I would check out Dr Jack Newman's Candida Protocol, gentian violet, grapefruit seed extract, and oral probiotics would be a good start to getting some relief...good luck mama!!

For his bottom, use about a tablespoon of lanolin (just like you use on cracked nipples) with 1 drop of tea tree oil. Mix it in a plastic pot (similar to what you can purchase lip balm in) and blend it together well. If it smells too strong, add more lanolin. If you add too much tea tree oil it will burn his bum. Tea Tree oil is safe when used EXTERNALLY only for babies, as it's anti fungal.

If you're cloth diapering, place white vinegar in the softener dispenser with his diapers to prevent spreading. Also, use vinegar on your unmentionables and any towels you are he uses, just to prevent spreading it. White vinegar will kill the yeast and it's safe for you and baby. Using 1/4 apple cider vinegar and 3/4 distilled water, then swabbed in babies mouth after every feeding using a cotton swab will also help kill the yeast in his mouth. For your mouth, using the same mixture will also help, except swish and spit it out. If you are able to get agrisept that will work the best for you. I took it internally encapsulated to kill it in my body and it worked wonders. If you have yeast, then you'll want to take it indefinitely until you can tell it has cleared up. Yeast and thrush are awful! My heart goes out to you and your little one.

I have heard gintian violet works, but i know of one study done in Australia that says is causes oral cancer, so I didn't use it.

Thanks guys :)

Went to the doctor...I have thrush but wee man doesn't.  I was put on two meds, but his ped wouldn't put him on anything even though every single resource I've read says that both mom and baby should be treated even if one isn't infected.
