Clothing for labor, birth, homecoming

I am birthing at a birth center and plan to labor in water. I could be nude, and maybe I will be, but i'm thinking I should have some clothes as an option for out of the pool/feeling modest. And then of course I need some comfy, roomy clothes I can go home in, keeping in mind the likelihood of any and all of these clothes getting messy.

I'm thinking a dress for labor, either one that I don't mind staining and tossing or one that washes easily. I don't have a lot of real maternity pieces and pants wouldn't be practical. a non-maternity skirt would not be comfy (under belly). I'm also going to bring a microfiber sports bra for birthing pool. Not sure what kind of bottoms to bring, or what to wear for the drive home.

Birthing: I was wearing maternity yoga pants and a t-shirt for part of it and then just stripped down once I got in the tub and stayed that way until we got ready to go home.

Outside of tub laboring: if you want something to wear I would go for a long t-shirt, a dress, hospital gown, a sports bra/tank top/bikini top, or splurge on something like this: http://prettypushers.com/.

Going home: just bring some maternity clothes- maybe pants that had become a bit tight later in pregnancy since you'll be significantly smaller.  Or pajamas.  You're just going home!

I birthed at home, so no going home clothes, but last time I labored in my jammies until I got into the tub. I put on a crossover/sleep nursing bra while I was in the tub. I wasn't too exposed for pics, etc, but easy access when baby got there! As soon as I got out of the tub, the wet bra started to make me CRAZY, so I pulled on a t-shirt while the MWs repaired my stitches, then more jammie bottoms. I probably would've done the same thing if I were at a birth center - comfy clothes for the ride home.

I got these belly bands to wear as tube tops during my water birth!  http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Be-Mine-Maternity-Pregn/dp/B000OSAH7Y/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1319587117&sr=8-5  I'm excited about it because I wanted something to cover my top during labor but also provide easy access to pull down when the baby is born and lies on my chest/breastfeeds. They are perfect! And I'm using them now for their actual use as belly bands. They really do hold pants up well and looks great under shirts as if you're wearing a tank top. I plan to wear them for a while postpartum too.

I'm not sure what else I'm laboring in while out of the water, though. Yikes. I suppose I should've thought of that by now! I'm birthing at home, so I guess I'll just wear a tank top and yoga/sweat pants.

What a great idea! I've been planning to go buy a comfy sports bra to wear in the tub, but I'm going to try on my belly band first. That would be so cool if it was comfy!

This is me too.  I wore my pjs all day, then a sports bra in the tub.  After that I put on some fresh pj pants and went to bed.
