measuring large for dates

I'm 28 weeks with my second baby, was measuring 22ish cm's at 24 weeks and had just had an u/s sayign baby looked good, dates good. Now I'm measuring 32 cm's...could this just eb a growth spurt?

I don't remember such a marked spurt with dd, but this is also a boy. I haven;t paid the best attention to diet thismonth but I still eat better than the average woman (no pop, only a little juice, little refined foods) have been eatign a lot of dairy though and fruit....even when I tested my urine today within an hour of having a suagry pastry and juice (a treat for being in the city to see midwives, not my usual) I didn't even have trace sugars or proteins... I feelfine, blood pressure fine. And I refused the GT test during my first pg... finding it hard to findanything conclusive about measuring large...I'd like to avoid the u/s and GT tests as I know how innacuurate they can be....I have done research on them, but not sure about measuring large.

I had the same experience actually.  I was measuring small around 22 weeks when I had my ultrasound and then I kept measuring either on target or a 1 cm behind.  At 28 weeks I suddenly had measured 4cm ahead, and at 32 weeks, I measured 3 cm ahead.  I think my babe was just catching up and having a growth spurt, since 34 weeks I have been measuring on target again (34 cm) and now at 38 weeks I am still on track.  I worried a great deal about it, just like you - but I think that the little one just grew a lot in a few weeks.  I didn't have a GD test done either, haven't had a single trace of sugar or protein in my urine and I have only gained 5lbs my entire pregnancy.

so my question would be after doing more research, does anyone know if I did have "gestational diabetes" would there nto be protein or sugar in my urine? Even after eating that pastry...nothing. also, they were concerned about too much fluid...anyone know much about that? It just seems like the stats say u/s for this are highly inaccurate and also do not increase good outcomes for mom and baby but do increase interventions...

I always measure 2 weeks ahead, this is my third baby, I've chaulked it up to the way my uterus is shaped.

I was diagnosed with GD but have never had any sugar in my urine. So it's entirely possible to test negative on urine and still have a problem.

Poorly controlled GD can result in excess fluid. Ultrasounds to measure it, same as baby size, aren't entirely accurate but the normal target range for fluid is relatively wide. I'm not sure how much over that you'd have to measure to trigger serious concern. But it definitely would result in a lot of extra testing, monitoring, and potential interventions if the ultrasound did show that you have a lot of extra fluid.

Still, a lot of things can result in measuring big for dates. Baby's position. A growth spurt. Who is doing the measuring. It's not necessarily indicative of a problem.

If you're seriously worried about GD, you can always go get a home blood sugar meter and a few strips and track your own sugars for a few days to see if they're in range.
