Helloo... my subject line pretty much says it all.... so any raw mamas or vegan/vegetarian mamas trying to lose weight????

When i went vegan i lost alot of weight actually pretty quickly .... but now i would like to kick the sugar habit and eat more raw foods in my diet... i have read a few books about raw weight loss and since im vegan i do not think it will be too hard... i jus want to lose enuff weight to happy with myself... not to meet the standard set out by society...

i gained quite a bit of weight actually thats where all this came from when i was pg with dd..i went into preterm labor at 24 weeks due to a car accident... to make sure she would be born healthy they put me on bedrest and i had a drip of steroids to make her lungs develop.... she was born early altho she was quite healthy and her lungs developed... so im happy... now 5 1/2 yrs later time to start focusing on losing a bit of weight...

ok done rambling...

I have been trying to eat veggie for a few years now, sometimes successful, sometimes not.

One book I read that worked for me when I wanted to lose weight was Fit for Life by Marilyn & Harvey Diamond. They are vegan, but also believe that you should only eat fruit in the morning; as much as you want, but ONLY fruit before Noon each day. I was able to lose 10 pounds (about 1 pound a week) on this program. I also cut down on carbs (more veggies, less potatoes/pasta/bread) at the same time.

Hey Tricia,

I lost a bunch of weight when I went vegan as well - from about 138 to 128. Then a few months ago, I went on a "no added sugar" kick for a while, as well as missing a bunch of lunches but having healthy breakfasts around 10 am and a good dinner. I went down to 118. I was happy with this but my husband thought I was too skinny (I'm 5'6") and teased me about it. So I started eating some sweets and now I'm right in the middle at 124, and quite happy about it.

I eat more grains than I'd like and we're working on that. Unfortunately for the fruit angle, I was just diagnosed with IC (Interstitial Cystitis), a bladder disease which means I'm very reactive to acid, so I can't have much fruit. I can have apples, pears, and a few other low-acid fruits like blueberries. It also means no more vinegar or lemon juice on my salads

But back to the topic, cutting out those desserts REALLY helped those pounds. Everyone noticed. It's funny because I tried to do the same thing last year and couldn't make it. But this time, I didn't even try. I just didn't have dessert for a few nights, not on purpose, and then suddenly I realized that I didn't have that sweets craving any more. It was really nice. Now I'm eating some but I find that the sweet tooth is gone and often I don't have any dessert at all in the day. I also try to eat what fruits I can as dessert if I crave it. (Unfortunately there is this amazing baker who makes vegan bundt cakes...)

Now that I feel I'm at an idea weight, I have to start working on fitness in terms of muscles. I have wide hips/pelvis, but when I have a baby, I really want to try natural childbirth, and I want to get myself in the best shape as possible for both baby and me. Also, because I have so many health problems, I feel that the better shape I'm in, the less sick I'll be, which is better, especially because many of my medications can't be taken when pregnant.

I think that doing a lot of raw will really help your weight loss. Good luck with it!

Check out www.hacres.com they have alot of info on the raw vegan/ weight loss topic. I follow the suggestions pretty closely, although I don't fit the 85% raw, 15% cooked profile yet- pretty close, though. I've lost 20 lbs in 2 months following their advice, and, amazingly, my energy levels are much higher! Hope this helps. God bless!

It's not so hard to cut out dairy as you might think, especially w/all the alternatives out there! Soy/rice milk, almond milk, rice/or soy cheese, egg replacers, non dairy icecream, etc. The hardest part is getting used to the difference in taste- after a while, though, you almost forget what the "real" stuff tastes like! LOL ! Kids can be pretty adventurous, especially if you include them in meal planning/ prep/shopping, etc. Hope it works out for you!God bless!
