Well, I'm pretty sure my water broke.................

And I am sick. And so is my dh. Earlier this week ds had a stomach bug and was throwing up, and I pretty much woke up with the same thing today. I haven't been able to keep anything down, I am trying to drink and eat some crackers at the moment. Dh and I were taking a nap (his throat is bothering him) and I thought I felt a pop. A few minutes later fluid started coming out, I got up to go to the bathroom and by the time I got there my pants were pretty wet. Ugh, the pool isn't blown up, we haven't figured out how to fill it, I haven't gotten more nursing bras like I wanted, we don't have a pack of nb sposies (cause I doubt she will fit in my cloth). I am 37 and 1 today.

Try to calm down! Are you having contractions yet? You may have a while. Get the pool blown up and send your dh to the store with ds to grab some diapers. Then, try to get some more rest. I know the situation isn't ideal... good luck and keep us posted when you can!  :)

Ugh - that sounds far from ideal. Go lie down on some towels with the biggest water bottle you have, and a bowl. Both ruptured membranes and stomach bugs can make you extremely dehydrated, and together that equals a big yikes. If you start to feel like your heart is racing, it means you need to be seen by someone, because you are becoming dangerously dehydrated.

If DH is too sick, maybe call a friend or family member to help get the things you need? Ask them also to get you some white grape juice and some coconut water. White grape juice is the juice that is least likely to irritate the intestines, and you'll need the sugar to keep up your energy, since you probably aren't eating anything at the moment.

My midwives have always told me that the body is unlikely to go into labour when you are sick (I've been sick at the end of the third trimester both times), so I don't know if you should expect to start labour until the bug clears itself out. What are your midwives opinions on PROM? Do you have a timeline?

Rest, girl, rest, and keep us updated if you can!

Yup, this!  I know it might be hard, but it's really important to rest right now.  Your labor might not start for days, so there maybe be time.  Do you still qualify for a homebirth at 37w?  Call your midwives and let them know, they will likely want to check on you and the baby 1-2 times a day until your labor starts.  Hopefully your sickness will pass quickly and you'll be holding a healthy baby in your arms.  Best wishes!  goodvibes.gif

ETA:  If your DH is too sick to go to the store, your midwives may be willing to come over and set up your birth tub, as well as pick up some diapers for you.  It's always worth asking, they're there to help you.

37 weeks is the cutoff so homebirth is still a go. I am contracting, about every 3 ish minutes, they aren't that long yet. Good to know about white grape fruit juice, I will have someone get some. I just picked up and vacuumed though, lol. Now I won't feel so bad when people come over.

Oh honey - don't pick up and vacuum - REST. You need to lie down and see if maybe this can pass, even if only for a few days so you have some more strength. And take it from a person who was in your shoes 4 yrs ago - make your hubby take a power nap early. My hubby was sick (I'd *just* gotten over it) when my water broke at 37+2, he was miserable through most of my labor and was very little help. I wish he'd slept more in the early parts so he was more present for me in the latter half.
Sending you some "stay in there baby" vibes - at least until you both feel better.

Yes, call in the help and put down the vacuum!  Mobilize your support network to bring you things and help out with your ds.  Sounds like labor is trying to start, so I would call your mw's and have them check you out and make some suggestions.  Hopefully they have a lenient timeline with ruptured membranes and not a 24 hour clock and transfer?

I just posted this in another thread, but I had a friend who had the stomach flu the day before she went into labor and I felt so badly for her.  But she said that once the labor hormones kicked in, she felt immensely better and had a wonderful labor and birth.  Keep us posted as you can!!

She is here!! Emily Paige was born at 9:04 pm, three minutes before my midwife got here lol. She is 6 lbs 4 oz and 19 inches. I went straight from having contractions 3 to 4 minutes apart 30 seconds long to pushing. We didn't even get the pool filled, oh well.
