Tetanus

Hello!

Ok, I may be going crazy and yes I am always worried about DS! Today my MIL was over, she has a id card from her work (she is a nurse) on her shirt. Anyways DS loves to play with it, of course I don't let him put it in his mouth and I wash his hands after. Then MIL was playing on the floor with him and he was trying to crawl around. It was nap time so I pick him up and notice that he has blood on his hand. So without thinking I just put my finger on it and it wipes off and looks like nothing is there. We proceed to walk MIL out and then I go to wash his hands. No sign of a cut ir more blood or anything, I was hoping to make it bleed, as I have read on here tetanus cannot live if oxygen is present.

My worry is that it could of been from the card and since she works at a care center there could be all kinds of things on it that could of gotten into that cut.

So long story short, will it be alright? He is not vaxed. I guess I am worried something got in there before I had a chance to clean it. It seems like tetanus is mostly due to puncture wounds. Sorry if this is dumb, I had to ask anyways, piece of mind : )

Thanks!

I'm sure she will be ok. However, when I found myself spending way more time worrying over every little scrape and cut my very rough and tumble unvaxed 5yo was getting, I decided it was time to do tetanus. No regrets.

You said it yourself, he had blood on his hands, it bled!!  That's all it needed to do!

About 30 people get tetanus per year in the United States, mostly people over 40 and heroin users.

A wound that bleeds is not at risk for tetanus. Tetanus is not going to be found at a care center.
