New to cloth diapering

Hi, 

My name is Sara, I'm new to this forum and could use some help. I'm pregnant with my second child and I need some advice on cloth diapering. I used disposables with my first but since I'm no longer working full time I would like to try cloth diapers but I honestly have no idea where to begin, any advice you can give would be very much appreciated.

Congratulations!!  There are so many options!

Here's what I did, which may or may not be what you are interested in. :)

For my newborn I had prefolds and size 0 Kissaluvs.  The Kissaluvs were the only thing that fit her right away.  I paired those with a wool soaker for the first while. It was easy and comfy.  The snaps helped my husband feel confident about diapering.  As she grew we started relying more on prefolds and covers (my favorites were Bummis Super Whisper Wraps and Lite Wraps, which have a higher rise than Bummis)

Once we got a good fit in the Small FuzziBunz, we moved almost exclusively to those until she was out of diapers. 

There are a *ton* more great products now than there were even 5 years ago.  I did like BumGenius, but I haven't tried the one size dipes from them, or FB.  Those looks super promising though, and super easy.

I was there just over a year ago.  We had only tried cloth very briefly with DS1, but wanted to go exclusive with DS2 from the start.  I ended up buying a dozen orange-edge prefolds and 2 dozen yellow-edge from Green Mountain Diapers, and then just bought covers here and there as I found good deals, and I made a few using some old wool sweaters until I had about 8 covers in newborn size, and a few in one-size or size M.  I really liked Bummis Super-whisper wraps, especially wit velcro, and I love my Imse Vimse covers.   I had a slightly chunky boy, and he didn't do well with some of the "breathable" covers I bought, since his little thighs were chunky,m they left red marks.  I can't remember the brand, though.  When he started to fill out the yellow-edge real well' I bought red edge when there was a seconds sale at GMD.  I never figured oit why they were seconds, but those are pretty much the only 2 dozen diapers he uses.  I found that the prefolds, which I originally bought because they were cheaper, and I thought I'd switch to pockets or fitted, but the PFs are easier, less leaky, and easy to wash/dry, and fit in any cover.  I only prefer the fitteds for newborns or runny-poop days (sorry to be gross).

 Otherwise, I advise you to buy a couple dozen prefolds, some Charlie's Soap, and 8 or so cute covers to start.  You'll get the hag of it.  Happy CDing & congrats!

Congrats!  I've cloth diapered 2, and will be cd'ing this new little one, too.  For ease, I really, really like pocket diapers.  Even cloth leery friends and relatives have no trouble with these. We have a smorgishboard of different brands of one size pocket diapers: BumGenius, Blueberry, and KangaBaby.  These didn't fit DD2 until she was about 10 lbs, though.  We used disposables until then.  But they are still fitting her, with room to grow, at 23 lbs.  I also have Fuzzi Bunz pockets, but they are not one size.  I really like them, though.  We used mostly prefolds and covers with DS because they were the least expensive option when we started cd'ing.  These are still in excellent shape, 2 (3 or 4 in some cases) babies later.  Snap enclosures, for sure.
