Easiest, quickest carrier for 0-6months

My daughter is 5 weeks old and I currently own an ergo with infant insert and a home made wrap. The ergo is a little bulky on my frame with the insert but it is quicker to get on then the wrap, which is 5 yards of fabric and I am still learning how to use it with ease. I like the wrap a lot and use it around the house but it seems impractical for a trip to the store. I'm curious what others recommend for wrap that I can get my daughter in and out of with ease at this age, for going to the laundromat, store etc. I've tried a ring sling and my daughter and I both did not like it.

I prefer a wrap with a newborn.  I agree that it is a lot of fabric to deal with.  For shopping, I tie the wrap on at home (under my jacket if it's cold out), and then pop the baby in once we arrive.  This way I don't have to deal with the fabric, and the baby gets transfered quickly.

I love my homemade mie tai. You roll the bottom up to make it work for a little baby. I've been using it while out and about since I completed it when she was 2.5 weeks old. I used mcalls pattern 5678:

At that age I wrapped the stretchy wrap in the morning and didn't take it off until evening. Easy to pop baby in and out and no bothering with all that fabric in the rain in the parking lot!

I loved my stretchy wrap for DD when she was that age, although like you it took me a while to get the hang of. My advice is to master pre-tieing your wrap. Once you get the hang of tying beforehand so you can just pop the baby in, trips to the store will be a breeze!
