The answer is that you don't have a 28 day cycle, and a lot of women don't. It's perfectly normal, and  the fact that your doctor didn't tell you this kinda sends off a red flag. If you have an early ultrasound, they will probably change your due date based on how far along the baby is measuring. I'm not usually one to advocate for early ultrasounds, but if they won't change your due date based on your word, then the u/s would probably be a good idea so you don't get pressured to induce early, or get labeled high risk because you're measuring small.Â

My EDD based on LMP is 2/29, but it's actually 3/20 based on when I ovulated. Luckily I'm seeing a midwife, and all I had to do was tell her this and she took my word for it. My first pregnancy was conceived in week 3 of a 5 week cycle, and I was seeing an OB, so I just lied and made my LMP to be 2 weeks before I conceived.

I personally would not continue to see a doctor who didn't have an answer to your simple question or isn't willing to take your word for when you are due. To me this says that he thinks he knows your body better than you, and he to not acknowledge anything other than "textbook" pregnancy and not any variations of normal.
