Compiling a list of ideas/events for our DDC, participation totally voluntary :)

~~Cyber Shower of Love for Mom and Babyr~~~ Organized Feb - Gifts Mailed by April 1st

I did this with my first DDC and it was so much fun! 8 years later I still remember the gift and surprise I felt as it came on one of those moody pregnant days :) Really neat to do.

Basically we all agree on a price limit (usually $10-$15 - if you want to go above and beyond that is your little secret), and women are randomly matched to send Mom and/or Baby something special.

~~Birth Beads/Nursing Necklaces~~~ Organized January ~ Beads mailed to organized by Feb ~~~ Beads mailed to you by March 1st

Every one purchases a minimum of 10 beads of their choice, and sends it to organizer with a SASE. After all beads have arrived at organizers home, they are sorted and every one receives a minimum of 10 beads back. It's a neat bead exchange for a birthing/nursing necklace and holds a unique memory for the years. This event is inexpensive and fun :)

That is all I have for ideas for DDC events. Does any one have any other ideas? Does any one like these ideas?

I have no other ideas at the moment though.

I did a birth bead swap with my last DDC. I'd be happy to organize it if we'd like. What we did was we got a count of how many people wanted to participate and we bought that many beads. They sent them all to me and I divided them out and returned them to everyone in their SASE. I think we ended up with about 28 or so. It was really cool and worked well.

I'd be totally open and willing to participate in either of them. :)

I'm not the most educated on these matters, but I believe some use their birthing beads as a necklace they wear during labor or have near their focal points as a reminder of good wishes and all the other women who are going through the same thing you are :)  Nursing necklaces I believe are for nipple twiddlers. It gives them a necklace to focus on instead of twiddling.

I'd be happy to organize the bead swap if we decide to do that. I figure after the first of the year, I'll get an "official" sign up thread going, I'll leave it open for about a week and then we'll have a final count for the number of beads to buy. The thing I like about buying one for everyone rather than just a set number is that we all have one from everyone. The other plus is that it gives us enough for a necklace. I also let each of my boys pick a bead for the necklace. 

I'd be open to doing the other thing too, whatever we decide as a group.

I would be interested in the bead option, but I live in Canada.... How would that change things? Would I just send a few extra dollars with my beads to the organizer so whatever comes back to me is covered? I can't pre-pay I wouldn't think because it would be weighted...right? I also wouldn't have the right envelopes. If it's too much effort for me/everyone else I won't bother with it, but it would be fun to participate!

Do you buy 10 (or however many people are participating) of the same bead or different beads? Should they be a certain size or with a certain sized hole in them?

Canada is no problem at all. :) Babycatcher is going to organize for us - (she has past experience and graciously offered - Yay BabyCatcher12) so we will let her figure how the Canadians work. You're all part of the DDC, so we wouldn't want you to miss out!

I would like for each person to do all the same beads, personally.  That way we'll all have the same bracelet/necklace.  That's just me though.  Maybe I'm weird?
