Weekly Chat Thread 10/29 - 11/5

Old thread here.

My goodness, where has the time gone?

I'm sorry to everyone dealing with colds or strep or anything else. Rest up and I hope you all feel better soon.

I hitched a ride to school with DH today, and we went and walked one of the nicer malls in the city. It was good to get out of the house again as a family, it might end up being a weekly thing.

What's everyone doing for halloween? Liam is gonna be a turtle (gift) and were passing out candy.

And I got some cute onsies at Spencers today. I'll post pics in a bit, he's fussing,

We went to a party last night and he was in a monkey suit. Well, first a bear suit but it was too thick and he was a sweat monster before we even left the house, so then he switched to monkey, but got overheated at the party.. so then he was just a baby in jammies ;) Yay for spare clothes! I'll put him back it in and take pictures soon. He was so cute it was painful :D

For the actual day, we're not going to do anything. We live in a weird spot, so the only kids who even know we're here on the neighbors and pah ;) If they come, I have some Smarties. They're mine, but I guess I can share.

Dusty's on a business trip. Very strange to not have him around! I have visits with others set up, though, and mom is back in state today, so we're good. I made him a video so he could see his baby this morning even when he's not here. Probably will do so every day. He's more comfortable these days and starting to talk about how amazing this kid is.

The party was awesome! All families and the lady who threw it (my doula) plans to do them monthly! Yay! Friends and social group! Several of the ones I talked to also go to the Cesarean support group so I will see them there, too! I am very stubbornly going to get me some local awesome friends. Dusty liked the dads, too :D Very excited!

Subbing!

Nora is going to be Belle. Finn didn't get a costume, I got him a onesie with skulls on it. Oh, and we got 2 bags of candy, that way for the 5 kids that come by we can give out handfuls and let them take as much as they want (within reason)!!

Yay for parties and friends! I have playdate on Fri with a friend from 5th grade. We just recently reconnected. Should be interesting!! Thurs is LLL meeting. Hoping to really socialize ave find ppl IRL to hang with too.

Dh is talking crazy about going to NC for work for a week soon. Im nervous to handle both kids by myself!

Anyone else have an almost thumb-sucker?

Carrie, Liam keeps trying to suck his thumb, but he can't quite figure out that opening his fist will do the trick.

While I was at the mall today, we stopped by Spencers. (I wanted just about every maternity shirt they sell, but didn't get any.) However, I got to indulge and buy some overpriced onsies. (Warning, vulgarity and profanity incoming.)

I don't know how many of you will appreciate these, but I have a feeling at least a couple of you will.

The cool thing (IMO) was that all their baby clothes referencing eating were breastfeeding ones. It made my day in a way.

biglaugh.gif  Those are great!!!!  I neeeeed to get to spencers!!!

Cute onsies!  Me and DH both were laughing!  The first one is my favorite lol.

Yay for halloween plans!  Hope everybody that's doing anything has a good time!

We are going to a trunk or treat tonight close by with the girls.  Ada is going to be a little cow and Sara Beth is going to be Snow White (only costume at Walmart left in her size....ughh).  She loves anything princess though...not sure how I feel about that completely.  The women's studies minor in me kinda wants to gag.

Monday we'll be going trick or treating with both kids as early as possible.  I don't really want them out late with it being cold since they've both had colds.  Then we'll get back and give out candy.

I so feel you Carrie!!!  My DH is getting ready to take a business trip as well.  He's going to SC.  I'm so jealous.  He's gonna get to see all of our family in NC while he's there.  I get stuck here with two kids for about 4 or 5 days.  We looked into flights for all of us to go but we just can't afford it with Christmas coming up and us making a two week trip there in December.  Maybe all my hair won't be pulled out by the time he gets back.

Reed is almost sucking his thumb too Carrie. smile.gif That makes three out of four kids Ugh. Well, Norah sucks her fingers I suppose. All REFUSED the binky! I'd be nervous if my dh left for a week too. Yikes, I think i'd die.

holy freaking crap those are CUTE onsies! lol!

Halloween: Girls' are all leopards (thanks children's place for 99cent costumes!) and Reed is a MOOSE! teehee, so cute! I am going to paint my face like a sugar skull and I cut up a tee to look like a skeleton. Dh will be a zombie. We'll go trick or treating in the bigger town next door to their business thing (holy crap lots of candy!) then come home and go to a few houses here in town, then back to our house to meet the two trick or treaters that come. smile.gif

So cute to hear about all your Halloween costumes!

Tonight, DH and I made a homemade play gym. I just couldn't get myself to spend $50 on one, especially when we have lots of awesome blankets and toys, so I really just wanted the frame part.  We spent less than $5. Here's the instructions I used (didn't get the pool noodle parts yet), and here's another cool play gym tutorial that I would have done if I was a craftier person.  In another thread, I was complaining about how needy DS has been lately, and he must have been going through a developmental growth spurt, because he is so much more alert and focused and playful these last couple of days. Still cries a ton and has many inconsolable hours a day, but he mixes them up with play! Here's DS tonight:

Over his co-sleeper (which is in the living room), we have the ironing board leaned over with those same toys hung over the feet ;) It works!

Dusty's stepbrother came over tonight (because we buy Big Bang Theory on Amazon and he missed the last one). I've been alone since last night so I totally took advantage ;) Made food (I start it and then if the baby cried he automatically covered for me!) and then when I couldn't stand it anymore, I ran off while Charlie was playing happily (first time today!) and took a two minute shower. I just was too miserably sweaty and stinky. Bwahahaha! Wasn't what he wanted me to do, but I wasn't going to take a no on that one. :D

I love those DIY baby gyms!

This morning Anton was batting at the stuffed doggies in the mobile above his cradle, and making a squeaky noise whenever he got them to move.  So cute!

I made Magnolia a mobile but I didn't even think about making a play gym. I've really been wanting one for her, but didn't want to spend so much money! I'm totally borrowing that idea!

Here's her mobile. She loooooves it!

The only thing Finn really likes is his mirror.  He LOVES talking to the cute baby in there!  It's so cute to watch him talk and talk while he's staring up at the mirror above his swing!  There's one that attaches to his jungle gym (we have ours from DD) and last night he was just really excited that there was another baby laying in there with him! winky.gif

He has started throwing his paci and shoving his fist into his mouth, occasionally getting his thumb, but mostly getting a couple fingers.  He is SO intent on getting it right.  It's so cute!

I think Finn and Olivia are separated twins.  I even think they look a bit alike, at least in some photos.  Olivia can't get enough of the cute baby in the mirror.  She went from hating diaper changes to loving them when we put a mirror on her changing table!  LOL  I think she's going to be a thumb-sucker, too.  Neither of the boys did, they both used me as a pacifier, so this is new!

My little Bug (O's nickname) is going to be a ladybug for Halloween.  I think Marc is going to take the boys (Darth Vader and Bumblebee) out while us girls stay home and hand out candy if anyone comes.  I would love to go out with them, but it is really cold and who knows how long they will be gone.

I can't imagine being without my husband for days like many of you have to deal with.  I would be lost.

I love the homemade play gym and mobile!  Very nice!  If I can find any time to sew I need to work on serging the bigger diapers.  Bug is about to outgrow the newborn/small ones I made.  I would love to do something more creative, though.  Like something from the tons of projects I've pinned to my Pinterest board lately!  Bug won't stay asleep for more than 5 minutes if I put her down, though, so I'm holding her for naps most of the time.  I spend a lot of time pinning things!  lol

Posting from the phone, love the onesies, LOVE the homemade baby gear. I have some stuff for a mobile, but it's in line behind other projects. Sigh.

Thought you ladies would appreciate this one:

Can't see whatever it was you posted, Michelle.

I just realized that I don't know what to do with a not-sleeping-all-the-time baby. Liam's been awake and complaining (not crying or screaming, but voicing hsi discontent nonetheless) for a couple hours now. He doesn't want to eat, he's been changed. I did tummy time for a bit until he decided he didn't like it jsut then. He's in his bouncy seat that he hasn't been in since he was a week old, and damn he got big. So I took an idea from all your mobiles and home made play things and stuck some toys on the little arch thing that goes over the bouncer.

Help! What do I do? I feel guilty going off, but he's too big for me to comfortably do dishes or clean with him in the sling. If he's playing on his own while I clean, is that okay? Or am I being a bad mom?

lol.gif  If this made us bad mothers we'd all be guilty!!  If he's happy, he's happy.  Nothing to it. When Finn is awake but just chillin' in his seat or under his gym, 'll pop over and say hi a bunch of times and maybe pop a paci in now and then, but otherwise do what you gotta do!  This is the easy time.  Wait til they're crawling and don't stay where you put 'em!
