Joanie, bombard away!  I'm so stuck right now!  I was thinking of totally diverting and trying to find a name that means "surprise" or "unexpected" or "three."

All I think of when I hear Auburn is a stinky ol' football team.  Sorry.  I like August a lot though.  Or Augustin.  Allister is nice too.

PS...Roll Tide!!  ;)

Thanks for all the suggestions!  Funny about Auburn... football is not my thing so I don't think of that at all.  But as someone else mentioned, thinking of football gives it a masculine quality.

Anyway, we're mulling over Avery.  August is a fine name, I just wish that baby was born in August to aid with the meaning.

I love Avery love.gif

While Avery means "elf counsel"... it has slipped to girl's name territory. While this doesn't bother moms much,... some dads do get bent out of shape about it. I ran a new mother's group for seven years and I have experienced dads who changed their kid's name upon learning their son's name was now on the pink side.

There a long list of old male names that have slipped to girl names. Cary, Meredith, Dana, Leslie, Marion, Taylor etc and so on

Hmm... Auberon is a more masuline version of Auburn, and it's description on Nameberry is:

Rarely heard in the US, Auberon has a gentle autumnal feel rare in a male name. Possibly starting as a pet form of Aubrey, it was also infuenced by Oberon, the king of the fairies in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

And a few from our own originally extensive list (not knowing what would be meaningful to you, I just picked a few with interesting meanings)

Arden - valley of the eagles

Alden - old, wise friend

Arlen - pledge, or promise

Alder - the tree, wood commonly used to make electric guitars

Archer - you know, someone who shoots arrows!

Amory - industrious

I've been obsessing over names lately (and stressing) so it feels fun and relaxing to think about names NOT for my baby. I hope you don't mind!

That's sad that they actually changed the child's name.  I would think that would do more damage than just leaving it.  When I was growing up (in the 80's/90's) I knew a Kelly, Morgan, Ashley and Shannon...all boys.  They were never teased that I recall...in fact they were all quite athletic and popular (and cute!)  :) Not that those are the most important qualities in a person, but my point is that their "girl" names didn't hold them back one bit.

Boy name. But while I'm here I have to add that I noticed that you guys move quite a bit. Are you planning on staying in Illinois? Because if you ever move to a more southernly state be prepared to hear lots of "War Eagle" (Im from alabama bag.gif )

lol.gif  We hope to be here a while and I can't foresee a move to the south if we do move again.  Hopefully it wouldn't be an issue then!  Auberon...  very unique, but a little of a mouthful.  I can't picture yelling that across the park.... that's sort of my test for a name.  ROTFLMAO.gif

Very true! And I suppose an Auberon would be forever and ever called Obi-wan. lol.gif
