Hi everyone!
Got nervous about not feeling much kicking (only when wedged up against something) so OB did an u/s and the baby is just fine! I guess the placenta is in front, so I can’t feel the kicks through it yet.

Anyone looking at birth classes? I’m trying to decide between Bradley and hypnobirthing—can’t tell which would be better. Anyone tried both and have an opinion?

Also, any thoughts on car seats/strollers? My mother wants a registry, and she wants it yesterday. They all look kind of the same to me. I’m leaning towards the chicco travel system because consumer reports gave it good reviews, but is there anything mystically wonderful about Britax or one of the other fancy ones? (not bugaboo, and not Bob—I need one that collapses pretty easily).

Prettyisa---for DD we went with the Graco Snugride 35 car seat.  I kept hearing horror stories about babies growing out of their carseats when they were 4 months old.  The Snugride is good up to 35 lbs.  DD actually grew out of it height wise before she ever would have weight wise.  We then moved her up to a convertible carseat.  Stroller wise, we ended up getting a stroller that matched the carseat and that the carseat could snap into.  It's kind of a mix between an umbrella stroller and the travel system.  I chose the stroller because it

matched, but also because it was so much lighter and easier to use than a lot of the travel systems that I saw.  It folds pretty compactly and you only need one hand to close it.

Prettyisa - I haven't felt very much movement either. Just little snippets here and there which isn't normal for me at this point. It's good to know that there was a good explanation for your lack of feeling movement as well. I've just been trying really hard to trust that everything is okay .... even though I've been in tears over it. My scan is in 3 weeks so I think that I can make it until then!

adoremybabe--I'm sure that's probably it! Seriously, it was like a blanket, it went from the feet all the way to the head and then wrapped around down towards my cervix, so there's not much uterus left to punch. She said that as the baby gets bigger it'll take up more space percentage-wise (and get stronger, of course) and then we'll feel it all the time. Good luck with the waiting--and don't get too upset! Hopefully it's the same thing and you'll get to see a super-cute dancing baby in there when you go in in 3 weeks!

I need to complain for a minute.  I don't have ANY pants that will stay up when I'm walking.  Over-the belly and under the belly, they all slide down, like a sausage being squeezed out of its casing.  I'm seriously thinking about taking garters or shirt-stays (from DH's uniform) and clipping my pants to my bra.  Its driving me crazy.  And the belly bands just slide down with them.  Ugh!  Okay, I'm done complaining.

Today I went grocery shopping and got hungry, so I opened a protein shake while I was shopping.  The checkout clerk asked me if I drink them all the time, and I said no, just when pregnant because they settle my stomach.  She said, "oh, you're pregnant?  How far?"  Really?  I mean, I'm not sure if I'd rather look pg or look like I have a pot belly. Guess I need to toughen up a little!

JustKate - I have the same problem with pants right now.  I'm constantly hiking them back up.  I think it is time to rock some suspenders! :p  My favourite pants right now are yoga pants with the fold over top.  I only have one pair, but I want to wear them everyday.  I guess it is time to get more.

I will be 17 weeks on Saturday and now I'm noticing less movement than a week ago.  I mean my husband was actually able to feel a kick/roll with his hand on my belly once last week, but this week I'm straining to notice much.  It is still going on though even if I can't feel it well so I assume the wee babe has just shifted.  I'm still paranoid whenever it has been awhile. :p  I can't wait for my next midwife appointment on Wednesday when I'll be getting my forms to schedule an ultrasound.  I wanna see and know everything is alright already!

I totally would wear suspenders if I had some!  I was thinking that removable garters would work--but of course I'm old and boring and don't have anything like that.  Grr.

Count me in on the complaining about clothing. I'm packing for a wedding weekend and am going to wind up wearing khakis and a sweater (instead of a dress or something a bit nicer) to the rehearsal. Grr! Nothing fits and I've found only one thing at the thrift shop that works well. Please tell me that at some point the belly gets big enough and the pants start to stay up?

Jeans - It's taken 3 previous pregnancies to realize that there may be another option to the maternity jeans. Today I went into the juniors dept. and bought a pair of very low rise jeans up one size from my pre preg jeans. They feel great, look good, and don't run into my bump at all. I will keep you posted as to how they work!

Courtney, I like the way they assigned helpers to families this year instead of helpers to categories of items.  I'm going to put the HH smilie in my siggie!!  I love HH and was a facilitator last year, but it got kinda overwhelming at the end... Looks like they have a good system this year. Now I'm off to find the roving thread....

Juniors jean? Are they just much lower than women's?

At a wedding after party last night I wore a very pregnancy-enhancing shirt. For the first time I started to experience random belly-touching. Wow that was weird. With some close friends it was awesome, like they were starting their bonds with baby. With others it was extremely strange and unwelcome. Fascinating exerience though.

Hah, random belly-touching. There's nothing to see/feel on me yet and I've caught myself doing it a few times. I used to think "what is with those women constantly touching their bellies?!" Alas, I am one of them.

Initially I liked the idea of the junior low-rise jean--brilliant--but I chickened out. I already wear low rise jeans, just not teenager ultra low, and all I could think of was drafts in the back. I hate jeans that don't completely cover my toosh crack when I sit. I see teenagers at the mall wearing way-too-low-rise jeans (as in, showing crack while they're standing with the jeans pulled as high as they can go) so I do believe there are really low ones available. In the end I decided not to even look in that direction because I need at least 34" inseam, if not 36", and the juniors clothes don't seem to be that long. But it did seem like a really good idea to me, too. :)

Yes, the rise is lower. I was shopping at Kohl's and the women's jeans do not come in a low rise, just mid-rise. I am wearing them today and they are doing quite well.

Random belly touching is so not okay with me. Close friends, fine. Strangers, no way. I think that I'm seasoned enough to say something..... or I'd just reach out and touch their belly back. :)

Oh, other people coming to touch your belly? Yeah, I'm not sure I could accept anyone but my husband and my mom touching me. Well, and the doctor, but that's not random. I read it as touching with one's own belly and bonding.

I must have a low "crack" :) I'm good to go!

I felt the baby quite a bit in the last couple of weeks, then about three days ago.... Not so much. Had me a little worried so I called my dad, he is an RN at the local hospital.... So we snuck in and Dad used the doppler on me.... I think it was just as much for his benefit as it was mine (we are the worriers in the family)... The heartbeat sounds fine but I do think that the placenta is in front of the baby right now and that must be why I am not feeling it move very much.

Jeans suck. I have one pair of skinny jeans that I am actually comfortable in. I bought them at Maurice's and they are the stretchy kind, so while they are comfy on the legs and belly, they still seem to fall all the time! I bought one of those belly band things and am not impressed much yet. They work better with sweats and such than jeans or khakis.

I'm just ready for November 30th when we find out what we are having. The suspense is killing me!

Baby is getting more and more active, although I'm surprised at where I feel the movement (always very low, but heart beat is strong really high...must be backup with arms and legs dangling???).

On the clothes issue, I used the belly bands for a while, but realized that by the end of the day I was loosing my pants. Finally switched to maternity pants, and am pretty comfortable. I do have to use the ones with the full belly panel or fold down the ones with a partial panel though, otherwise they're already too tight around the middle. Maybe I'll just have to go up to a size large before I'm done and hope they don't look too baggy in the legs.

Looks like GD is rearing it's ugly head. My postprandial (after meal for those luck enough to have never dealt with this) numbers are great, but my fasting numbers are sky high...I don't even know what to do with that, I mean how can you lower numbers when you're sleeping :-P Oh well, I'm just going to do my best to keep things in check and hope this one isn't over 11 pounds!

Hmm, is the movement low on both sides, or is it just one area? Maybe head up with face and arms towards your back?

Zuzu, was your last babe over 11 lbs? Mine was 10 lbs. 11 oz. I did not have GD...  although I am sure that there would be docs out there that would beg to differ. My smallest was 8 lbs. 12 oz so I secretly dream of a 7 lb. tiny tot.

My babe was 9lbs12oz at 42+3 and I didn't have GD. I'm almost hoping I get a 38 weeker so I can have a hope of an 8 pounder. My midwife thinks I just grow them big since, despite being born at 37 weeks to a chain smoker who never ate well I was 5lbs10oz.
