Birth control for sensitive women

Thread Starter

I'd really like to figure out a possible option for me that doesn't hurt my body, take too much effort and also allows for spontaneity.  Hormonal birth control gives me migraines, so that's crossed off the list.  I've thought about a copper IUD but I've heard some horror stories that have made me a bit scared.  Condoms suck, the pull-out method is what we're using now, but that feels too risky.  A diaphragm maybe?  They have a high fail rate, though, I believe.

Are there any other sensitive women who have had a difficult time figuring out the right birth control for them?  If so, what works great for you and what doesn't?

I don't really have any suggestions, but wanted to add that I too get migraines from oral contraceptives, but actually had none using NuvaRing.  I'm not sure why, but in case you hadn't tried it, that's something to consider.  Also, the Today Sponge is back on the market, and available OTC.

Two thoughts: 1. I've found that some condoms suck and some don't, at least for me, so if you haven't tried a few different types, it might be worth a shot. 2. Have you considered learning about fertility awareness methods? We have a pretty active group here you can talk to if you are interested in learning more.

Condoms--don't use Trojan! They feel like sandpaper, I swear!  I like Lifestyles or One.

Also a very sensitive woman and I've found that fertility awareness + Durex Skyn non-latex condoms is the best for us. fertility awareness- yeah, it's a bit of work to temp and chart and learn about cervical fluid, but it's sooooo worth it. I love knowing what my body is doing. We only use the condoms when I'm fertile and those ones are really nice. No funky smell and very smooth/soft.

By knowing when I'm fertile, it does allow us some spontanity. I know when we need a condom and make sure to tell him (he usually asks, though he's starting to learn the pattern now).

This method is perfect for us. No hormones, no sticking thing in my body, a better understanding of reproductive cycles and my body, and a closer relationship with my partner. absolutely worth the time and effort to chart and once you get the hang of it, it's not that much effort, really.

good luck finding something that works for you!
