For ladies who have been dieting...

Do you go into maintenance mode during the 2WW or do you diet right up until the BFP or AF, whichever shows first?

I have lost about 12 pounds in the last two months and I find that since we DTD this month, I have lost my momentum. It got me wondering whether my wise mama body is trying to skootch myself into a maintenance level of calories... Obviously after we conceive, I will not try to lose weight.

Any thoughts on dieting in the possible early stages of pregnancy? When I am following my plan I eat no fewer than 1300-1600 calories a day, depending on exercise.

I actually talked to my doctor about this a couple of weeks ago because I have probably 75 pounds I need to lose to get to a "healthy bmi".  She said in the two weeks you don't know for sure you are pregnant, the reduced calories from working to lose weight will not negatively affect the growth of the baby.  Once you know you are pregnant, then severely limiting calories is not recommended.

For me, she actually recommended losing 20 pounds because I haven't been able to get pregnant.  She recommended making sure I get lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes (because I am vegetarian), and make sure I take a folic acid supplement or prenatal vitamin.

Her recommendations set me free from the 3 weeks losing, 2 weeks "well maybe I am pregnant so I shouldn't lose weight" cycle I have been on the last 6 months.  Now I just keep trying to lose weight regardless and once I know I am pregnant, then continuing a healthy diet, but not severely limiting calories.

I would talk to your doctor if you are not sure, but it made sense to me when I got the okay from my doctor to continue to actively pursue weight loss while TTC.

Thanks for the good information! I will get back on track - I think it is just the stress of waiting. :)
