Hi I a,m looking for the information about what to supplement if nursing is not available. I was thinking of the one that says if you an;'t breastfeed then pumped then formula. I can't find it on the internet. A friend needs an article to show her mother who thinks frozen breastmilk isn't as good as formula while she's away because the frozen breastmilk is for a younger baby then she is. (Which is stupid b/c they have 1 formula for birth through age2 or something)  If anyone can help me find this article or another I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Courtney

It's somewhere in this WHO document

http://whqlibdoc.who.int/publications/2003/9241562218.pdf

quoted in this wikipedia article

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breastfeeding

"the choice of the best alternative–expressed breast milk from an infant’s own mother, breast milk from a healthy wet-nurse or a human-milk bank, or a breast-milk substitute fed with a cup, which is a safer method than a feeding bottle and teat"

I hope this helps

Here is a quote about breastmilk changing as the baby changes.

"Breast milk cannot be duplicated by commercial baby food formulas, although both contain protein, fat, and carbohydrates. In particular, breast milk changes to meet the specific needs of a baby. The composition of breast milk changes as the baby grows to meet the baby's changing needs."

This doesn't mean that formula is better than frozen milk because frozen milk is from a differnt day, week, week, or month. Even frozen milk from another mother with a baby of any age is better than formula. Milk banks don't match milk with babies by age.
