Quick Question...

Ok, I have been here asking you girls sometimes what may seem like silly questions! I thank all of you for humoring me and just supporting me with no ridicule : )

My DS is 10 months, still primarily BF except for the occasional tablespoon of food! And I am at home with him, he is not vaxed. Anyways I am always worried and usually leave him at home, I don't take him out much and we don't have a ton of visitors. My friend is in town getting radiation. She wants to visit of course for me this sent up a million red flags and I am scared to have her here. I guess because I know she has been around "sick" people I am afraid of her bringing something here. Meningitis is always first on my mind (I suppose because it can be so severe) but I know there are tons of other things he could get too. What do I do? I feel bad if I said I didn't want her to come. But my babes health is first priorty and if it is not in his best interest I will say no. Thanks!!

I don't let my baby's vax status keep me from social events.  And I wouldn't tell a friend not to come over unless she herself were sick.  Just what I would do.  I think being around germs is a good thing, helps build a strong immune system.

Thanks, thats what I was thinking too. Just needed a little feedback : )

Wait, she's receiving radiation? I would be more worried about that than any non-symptomatic illness she might have. With some kinds of radiation, people need to avoid contact with others for several days after treatment. I'd double check with her and consider the risk of THAT.

Really? What kind? She is here for four weeks recieving it daily for 10-15 minutes, I know she has been visiting others as well, would the drs tell her not to visit others??

Really? as well!

your friend is sick and getting radiation and you think she is around sick people? so do you think you catch cancer? not being snarky but I don't see what this friend might have that you are in any way concerned about it??

most people who are receiving radiation treatments are them self worried about catching "things" and most received radiation in a some what clean environment (at least it should be!) - I really don't get what your friend may be catching and bringing to you? Meningitis? I would hate to think your friend would be or have meningitis and still be getting radiation.

I think your friend has more to fear from catching something from your baby than the other way around....at 10 months old a baby who IS vaccinated has only really had the full DTAP and polio i think....If you are so afraid of your baby catching some sort of horrible illness that you typically leave him at home rather than bring him out in public  - maybe not vaccinating isnt for you.

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing, worried we might have something to pass on to her.

Serenbat - not to be "snarky" but no I do not think you can catch cancer and I pretty sure I never asked if that was a possibility.

Motherhendoula - He would have his Dtap, polio, Hib, Pen-c, and Mec-c by 10 months. And you are right I am not too sure if it is for me either - just taking it one day at a time.

Serenbat - people catch stuff in the hospital all.the.time.

I don't tend to worry about catching things - but if you are the sort to worry or have reason to worry - it is an issue.  There are sick people at the hospital.

I would let your friend know about your non-vaxxed status.  Honestly, most VPD have very low rates of disease, and your baby wouldn't be fully vaxxed anyway, but let your friend make up her own mind based on her own comfort levels.

Definitely tell her if you or the baby are sick, though.....you are more of a risk to her health than she is to yours, given the radiation and cancer.

in my area, hospitals no longer do radiation and chemo - there are centers that are set up so that those with compromised immune systems are not with the "general" hosp population for their own protection and when sick (with something communicable) they would not be going for treatments- for their own protection

That is wise.
