Carriers for Large Moms?

Thread Starter

I'm size 20 and my husband is no slim Jim...

We picked up a Snugli for $10 at the local Baby Consignment shop, and it JUST BARELY fits, but it fits.  It's a crotch hang, which I hear is bad, so now that we know that we love wearing, we want to upgrade, but I'm really afraid to buy an expensive carrier and it not fit.   I have a sling, and we've tried wrapping but we're looking for a structured carrier.

Hoping there are other moms with advice?

The BabyHawk OhSnap will fit a woman's size 22, or man's xxl.  Try a local babywearing group to see if there are any to try on, or buy a used one (thebabywearer has a FSOT forum).

If you sew, or know someone who does, you could easily make a MT with straps the right length for you. Some of MT makers offer longer straps, but even those aren't always long enough, especially if you prefer ties which require extra length.

This is the best pattern, imo.

www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/man-tai.shtml I make it without the pocket & make the shoulder straps about 76" after being sewn in.

We have the ergo with the waist extension. It is comfortable and can fit up to a 48" waist very comfortably.

Waist isn't the only measurement to take into consideration with SSCs like the Ergo.  I have wide shoulders - in fitted shirts I have to size up from what my belly needs so that I don't rip out seams.  I tried the Ergo on, and there's no way it would work for me because the shoulder straps aren't in the right spot.  My DH would have the same problem, since his shoulders are just as wide.

Yep, the boba g3 is great! It will fit a waist up to 58 inches without an extender belt.

ETA- hubby & I both have wide shoulders as well and the boba fits fine!

Hi,

You also can use a long wrap no?

A moby!  It can adjust to any size.  Also, an Ergo with the waist extension is quite comfortable.
