Nursing HURTS so much between O and AF

I'm really having a challenge with my nursing relationship with my 22 month old DD. Since my cycles came back (around 13 months), my nipples have gotten REALLY sore about 2-3 days around O. However, the past 2 cycles, it hurts so much from the time I O to the time AF comes. It's often so painful I have to stop her (which upsets her of course). She nurses about 3 times a day when I'm at work and more often than that when I'm home.

I'm happy for her to continue nursing but I really can't stand the pain longer than a few minutes and emotionally it's really wearing on me too. It sort of makes me crazy actually. I'm wondering if my supply is dipping during that time because it feels like she's biting me REALLY hard and sometimes it almost feels like she's nursing but nothing is coming out (which makes my skin crawl and I hate it :( ).

I'm not sure what I'm asking for here....maybe just commiseration....

I don't have much in the way of advice but I'm there with you on the commiseration side! UGGGHHH!! I don't remember it being nearly this bad with my first baby; but my 18mo has always had latch issues, so it's just awful. I'm gritting my teeth and bearing it now, but hopefully someone else has some good suggestions!

I will be watching this thread with great interest, because I am right there with you. I wasn't sure I'd make it some days.

I was having this problem, as well as extreme cramps from O to AF. Kellymom has something about taking added calcium during this phase of the cycle. I did that and it did help a little. I also tried extra B vitamins. In between I was dx'd wth borderlne low vitamin D and did megadose therapy for a while. That made some difference, too. But what made the biggest difference in the past few cycles was taking at least 2 Tablespoons of ground flax seed daily. (I have not been taking the B vitamins or calcium anymore, but I think I'll start them again... I have been taking some blackstrap molasses with my morning oatmeal, though.)

I had this problem, it was horrific. I had other issues too like joint pain. I seriously thought I was going to have to wean. - Turns out it was a vitamin d deficiency. Might wanna get it checked out by the dr- the supplements aren't that expensive at Whole foods, like $7 for a jar- my doc didn't even give me a script, but told me to run to WF or Trader Joes and get them there. :)
