Homemade gift idea for a tween?

I would love some ideas, ladies!  My nieces are coming out here for Christmas and I have pledged to a homemade holiday.  Well...homemade gifts aren't at the top of the cool list for tweens apparently so I could use some help. :)  The niece in question is 10 (the other one is 4 and should be pretty easy to please with a homemade purse or puppet).  Thanks so much for any suggestions!

If you knit or crochet, how about a scarf or hat. If you're crafty, how about jewelry [pretty necklace or bracelet, for example]. If you sew, how about a skirt?

A skirt might work, I'll have to look at some of the teeny bopper magazines and see what the girls are wearing these days. :)

Wrist warmers/fingerless gloves are nice to wear and still "in" as far as homemade goes. I've put together craft kits before for my nieces with age-appropriate craft supplies, as well. Things like a pattern for little purse they can hand sew with some fabric, thread, and needles, etc.

For the 10 yr old how about a necklace, bracelet yet?  Those are simple to make and there are tons of beads to choose from.

For the little one can you knit/crochet?  If so how about a blanket or doll?

Home made bathsoaps are awesome too.  Bar soaps with $$ in them, like silver dollars are 'cool' in this neck of the woods.

Cute idea about the money in soap.  I thought about doing soap this season for my hubby and doing a shaving gel to go along with it.  Do you have a link to your favorite recipe?

The soap is a good idea, too. I've done that before in bun shapes, with white glycerin soap poured over it like frosting. I do hot process soap here and there, and that seems to be popular with everyone. I've even had guys come up and tell me in a hushed voice "I'm a little ashamed to admit this, but I really liked the oatmeal soap you made."

Thanks for the recipe!  I've always wanted to get into soap making, I have some molds and I would love to try it this season. :)
