Really Bad-Smelling Jeans?

Thread Starter

I just bought some maternity jeans from Target (the Liz Lange brand...you can see them online here). They don't have a belly panel, but they do have a stretchy waistband.

No matter how I wash them, there is this weird chemical/formaldehyde-ish smell coming from them. It is grossing me out. I have tried Seventh Generation (scent free) liquid detergent and I also tried to soak them in Rockin' Green. The smell is still there. I really like the way they fit, but I am afraid I'm going to have to throw them away.

Any ideas for getting rid of the smell?

Baking soda? I would try that or bac-out.  It might be the elastic or the dye.

can you soak them in a vinegar solution?

Take them back. I have four pairs and none of them are stinky. I would totally return them and say they smell bad and you want another pair. I am super sensitive to stinky clothes when Im pregnant. I washed mine before I wore them for the first time with All Free and Clear, so I dont know if that made a difference.
