9 month old, probably will skip crawling. I have a question...

My 9 month old won't crawl. She won't even lay on her tummy without crying instantly. She doesn't scoot, or army crawl either. I am fine with her skipping crawling but I can't understand how she will go from sitting up to standing on her own. I mean I can't picture it in my head. Anyone else have experience with this?

She will probably find something to pull up on to start standing. She may also crawl at some point, though some babies do seem to skip it.

My DD skipped crawling completely.  She started cruising though around 7 or 8 months.  We'd sit her near a soft topped ottoman and sit on the floor with her and I can recall her pulling herself up and cruising around the ottoman.  She did that cruising until she was able to walk confidently and without falling.

We integrated walking toys somewhere in there too so she could move around beyond that circle of the ottoman :)

I can also recall putting her hands on the edge of the ottoman and holding her back as she did some initial cruising.  She had great leg strength.  She would stand holding onto my fingers even as a small infant.

I've read that more and more babies are skipping crawling because they are spending less time on their tummies.  When babes used to sleep on their tummies they would naturally start wiggling around in that position.

My ds crawled, but it didn't last long.  He would sit on the floor, put his hands in front of him to balance while he got his feet positioned on the floor, and then would stand up.  It took LOTS of practice, but he refused to pull up on something to stand - he had to do it his way.  He stood independently like that at 7.5months, and then walked at 8.5months.

My DD was like this. I figured she's skip crawling altogether; she would either roll or army crawl to get around. Then, in one week, she pushed herself into a sitting position, pulled herself to a standing position, crawled (the regular way) and started cruising!

My first didn't crawl.  Not once.  Not ever.  She scooted backwards on her bum, and that's as close as she got.  She also would not tolerate tummy time on the floor.  She started to pull herself up and cruise at about nine months, and then started walking at ten months.

Lol I think my dd will do the same thing. She has always hated tummy time, she's 8 mths now and still cries when I put her on her belly. She can stand up by herself and stay up for a few seconds, so I'm thinking maybe she'll just skip crawling. I'm glad she's not the only one! She sits up like she's doing a sit-up from lying on her back--it's all in her belly muscles, and then she just kind of pops up to standing. I'm not really sure how she does it, I tried to copy her and it was too hard, but it works for her somehow.

My neice skipped crawling.   It does happen!

My foster son started furniture surfing before crawling, so that's still another possibility.

Hey! I skipped crawling :) I was in a brace to treat hip dysplasia and crawling was physically impossible. I believe I began pulling myself up and cruising at 9 months.
