Think my baby was given milk, or food, or something..

First thing..I'm more of a lurker around here :) I think I've posted twice, but that's because I always find my answer by searching, and never have had to post! I love that!

Ok...so...

My In-Laws watched our son this last weekend. They watched him Friday night, most of Saturday (day) and half of Sunday. He nursed when I was able to come back, and also at night. He didn't take the bottle much. I figured he just was waiting for the real thing. ;) Well, he has had some seriously stinky thick poop. So, I KNOW they gave him something, but I don't know what. They said he didn't have anything, but I just know that he did. When his poop has never smelled bad, and has always been the same, basic, consistency, I would know that they gave him something, when suddenly it wreaks, and looks different. I don't think it was formula, because they didn't have any, but they would have had some around on Sunday night.

So...my question..

What would a breastfed baby's poop look like, if he was given formula. Baby is 7 months old. What about milk? (like straight cows?) Or what about cooked solids, like a Gerber meal thingy (I know they had some of those around)

Yesterday his poop was dark and stinky, but this morning it was so watering and green and sickly looking..not like the crazy semi-bright stuff we've had in the past.. I am so concerned about this, but they are adament they didn't give him anything.

Side note: They will never watch my kids again, because besides this there were many other things they did/didn't do that I am upset with.

It matters not what they gave him except that they will never watch him again if they don't swear to follow your instructions. Jeez, the nerve of some people. What if they spark a food allergy or something!?

I know, right!? I never even thought of the allergy aspect. :( And I guess the only reason I want to know what he was given is because I know of every single little thing he has ever put in his mouth, and now his body is trying to deal with whatever it was they gave him and I want to know what it is. I know it won't help, but there is something in his body that it obviously doesn't agree with and it makes me so sad, and angry. I was doing a little BLW, with like bananas and little things here and there, but I'm going to completely wipe out his system, by going back to EBF for awhile, until things even out.

I make your spouse talk to the in-laws and try to suss out what they may have slipped him.

Good idea! I will definitely do that. Even this morning his poop is STILL weird, but not nearly as stinky. Now I'm concerned about something that was in it last night, too. It looked like there were little strips of boogery poo with red or pink tinges.

Honestly, my babies poop was like that if she nursed/took in less in a day. It would be thick and stinky.  Your baby nursed less so it's very likely that is why.

I guess I am just not sure you should jump to the immediate conclusion that they gave him something, especially if they say they didn't. I don't mean to belittle your concern at all, but just to say that are you sure he might not have caught a stomach bug or something? I only wonder this because there was seriously a month-long period where my EBF daughter's poop was just...off. Overnight it went from the typical yellow, seedy poop to being this weird dark reddish brown color--almost like maple syrup--and it STANK to high heaven. There was absolutely NO chance she'd had anything besides my milk, and my diet hadn't changed, either. I asked the doctor about it and she said if nothing else had changed, it may just be a stomach thing that would work itself out. It took awhile, but then the poop just went back to normal on its own.

I agree with Blanca. Both my two babes have had episodes of weird poops even before starting solids. Sometimes the reason was obvious - a tummy bug, a cold - but sometimes we never figured it out. Baby poop is mysterious!
If they're never going to be alone with him again, why not give them the benefit of the doubt?

there's been a time or two that our LO had weird, stinky poops for no rhyme or reason... maybe it's just a coincidence?
