Possibly juvenile diabetes or something else??

My son had his 6 year old physical yesterday.  They tested his urine and found sugar and ketones in it.  Obviously the doctor thought of diabetes and tested his glucose level.  The glucose level was normal at 105.  On Thursday I have to drop off a first-morning urine sample.  Can this still be diabetes with the normal glucose level?  I tried to research online, but I am not finding much.  I should have asked the doctor a bunch more questions but my 21 month old was not being very cooperative, and the doctor did not seem as concerned once the glucose level came back  normal. She had mentioned something else called Benign Glyosuria. I also looked that up online and it is not a big deal, but none of the articles I read about it mentioned ketones.  Anything I found with both sugar and ketones in the urine all said diabetes, but they all mentioned a high glucose level.  Anyone have any idea what this could be?

I would think in the early stages of diabetes it would still be possible to have a normal glucose level at times while the body is still producing some insulin. I was diagnosed just over a year ago but I still have days that I am producing some insulin.

Is he showing any other signs of diabetes?

There is a blood test called HbA1C which measures the glucose level over the last 12 weeks and gives an average. I would think that would be a good test to ask for if it is not already being done.

I hope you work out what is going on with him soon.
