What are you washing? I use All Free and Clear on my diapers and Seventh Generation on everything else.

I wash everything, including diapers, with the store brand free and clear detergent.  I've been using it for years and everything gets clean, no funky smells or anything. The only time I had issues was when I let the water softener run out of salts.  Lesson learned.  If another free and clear brand is on sale cheaper than the store brand, I use that.  But I've noticed that some of the  name brand laundry detergents actually have a perfume-y scent to them.

ETA Check out this chart about detergent ingredients.  I know it's for cloth diapers, but it gives you an idea of what is in what.

clothes and blankets and eventually cloth diapers

I use 7th Generation Free and Clear-- on diapers, clothes, everything...

On things that I like to have a scent and additional softness (sheets, towels, etc...) I use Mrs. Meyers fabric softener.

I'll cut that out when the new babe is here until I feel confident that she doesn't have any allergies to scents.

I use Charlie's Soap with ALL laundry and love it!

We use Country Save (cheaper by the case on Amazon or you can get it at vitacost.com) for all our laundry including cloth diapers

I use Purex Free and Clear on everything but diapers.  It causes build up with our water here and everyone I know who's used cloth diapers with free and clear eventually ends up with nasty diaper stink.  I use Ecover delicate (natural plant-based detergent) for diapers since it's not too pricey ($4 bottle lasts me about 30-35 loads) and available at Sprouts (locally-grown produce chain store).  Not sure where else you can get Ecover products but it's getting pretty popular in the cloth diaper world, so I imagine other places carry it.  They also have a fabric softener that's diaper safe, so if you want that for some reason, it's there.  I always found my diapers plenty soft without it... but then we don't soften anything so maybe I'm just used to it. :)  I used to use Planet on diapers and liked it just as well, but it's impossible for me to find now and super pricey if I do.
