Bottles at night

Hi,

I have a three year old son who I breastfeed up until almost 2 years old and I fed him on demand all day and night for a long time leading to total sleep deprivation. Our second is due this December and I'm going to breastfeed her as well but I want to pump and give her bottles at night once her latch is well established. I'm hoping this will allow her to sleep in longer stretches, and me too....Has anyone done this?  I'm interested in understanding the logistics. For example, when did you pump? Did you warm the bottle before giving it to baby? How old was your baby when you started, etc....

Thanks!!

I'm confused why you think that giving bottles will result in *her* sleeping longer?  I can understand why you would sleep longer--- DP could give the bottles.  But if it is still bmilk in the bottle there "should" be no sleep difference.

You might want to wait on your plan.  Even siblings can have drastically different sleeping and eating patterns---- you might find your DD naturally sleeps longer than your DS did.

Also confused as to why a bottle would help her sleep longer. I would think it would be less hassle to just plonk her on the boob than going through the trouble of getting a bottle ready, unless your hubby is going to feed her.

I don't know if you're planning on cosleeping or not, but if so you might want to try side nursing in bed so that your baby doesn't have to wake you much when you're asleep. I did this when DD was waking every hour to feed and it was a lifesaver.
