I know I'm not the only one facing this sort of challenge, so figured I might just start up a discussion so we can get our best suggestions in one place.
Â
For us, the specifics are:
Long drive - 12+ hours each way (gonna be much longer with a 2yo).
Large family, none of whom eat the way we do.
Each couple is responsible for dinner one night.
Breakfasts will be entirely bread products (danish, doughnuts, toast, bagels, etc.), or make your own. DS is GF, so that's gonna be tough.
Lunch is leftovers or eating out.
Shopping options are very limited, as it's a small town. Fred Meyer, Safeway, don't know how big the local co-op is.
We'll be in a car, so limited space to pack stuff with us, and I have no idea what will be available at the HFS. I'm assuming a max of my small soft-sided cooler (holds about 2 gallons of milk) to fit in the car.Â
Â
So what do I take (for the drive, for the stay)? What do I compromise on? What do I cook for our night's dinner?
Â
Plan so far:
Pack a jar of CO, and a half pound of butter.Â
Pack organic apples for DS.
I may wind up taking our raw milk share with us (half gallon) so it doesn't go unused.Â
