Nursery Ideas?

I'm having so much fun planning my baby nursery that I thought it would be neat to swap ideas here. What are your plans for a baby nursery? We're planning on painting the walls dark gray with lots of bright colored accents and dark wood furniture. Hubby is an artist, so he's planning on doing a 1920s black & white cartoon mural on one of the walls. Can't wait to get the ball rolling on this thing!

Feel free to post pictures!

Also, I found this great website with lots of fun ideas for nurseries: http://www.chiccheapnursery.com/

Thanks for the link.  I've recently done a complete 180 and have decided to go very neutral and calming rather than colorful. We are in a rental right now, so don't really want to paint. We have lovely cream colored walls and carpet, and long white flowy curtains on the sliding glass doors (it has a balcony). So after looking at Restoration Hardware Baby, I've decided to go with antique whites and creams with pink accents. I think it is going to be gorgeous!

Sounds lovely!

Forgot to mention.  That 20s black and white sounds divine. I'd love to see a pic once you get some of it done.

What about those who are just making a "nursery nook" in their bedroom?  How are you setting it up?  At this time, it looks like I will get a glider and a dresser (double function as changing table), a dimmable light and that's about it...

There are lots of great things you can do with a nursery nook. A while ago, I remember seeing some photos of closets-turned-nurseries on http://www.offbeatmama.com ... you might want to peruse that site.

I've got a little nook going.  I got the perfect size and price dresser from IKEA - three deep large drawers, perfect height for changing without stooping over, and room to put a few extra things on it. I bought a fancy hand made "task light" from Etsy...  http://www.etsy.com/listing/78026013/wall-lamp-claylight-wallmount-line

wall mounted with a plug and switch, I installed it pointing down, and it's easy to aim wherever you want...so I can turn that on in the middle of the night to change diapers and not have the lightbulb directly in baby's face...   I made a mobile of ribbon fish that came out beautiful for over the crib...  my crib bedding has brown and white elephants,  and I have a cute diaper stacker with dinosaurs on it.  Baby's sex is a surprise, and some how I ended up with a bunch of random animals and no specific theme, but the colors look great together, and each item I picked was just perfect in my eyes!  It's a cozy little corner!

We don't have a room for baby yet :-( Our construction project has put that on hold, hopefully not for much longer though. I've been collecting ideas to use when we are ready to go - http://pinterest.com/aychjeg/babys-room/

I have a vintage-y crib sized quilt that serves as inspiration, along with Kevin Henkes's book "Owen" which we'll frame pages from (baby's name is Owen). So that's a start. Our crib is from IKEA, a natural beech color, and our changing table is also beech and white. We have some hand me down furniture from a friend - a pair of little dressers and a book case. And I'll put either a papasan chair or rocking chair from elsewhere in the house in baby's room too. We still need a rug and some fun accessories!

Wow. Typing that all out makes me feel so much better - we are more ready to go when we have a room available than I though we would be!! *sigh of relief*

Rocket's crib is in our room, we re-purposed the top of my dresser as a changing station with colorful bins for diapers, bum goo, toys for distraction, etc... His clothes were in 3 drawer plastic bins, but he's getting to like pulling them out and putting them into the dirty hamper, so I moved toys and other things to them and put the clothes into the dresser (my clothes are pared down now that I'm in full on maternity wear anyway).  We have a space heater on the dresser on the other side of the bins for really cold mornings, it's a super safe kind with nothing hot he could touch and if it tips over it shuts itself off.  We don't really play much in there, so the bulk of the toys and books are in the living room on a long low shelf so he can reach everything.  When they were in bins he would dump them out, but now that his toys are all on display he tends to pull down only a few at a time.  Our walls act 'wet' all the time in this rental, so I can't really do much with the walls.  Paint comes off onto anything that touches the walls for any length of time.  I've been putting up different postcards on the wall around the changing station with those removable sticky tabs.  There are a few big tacky posters at kid height in the living room with pictures of baby animals and bugs and suchlike.  Admittedly our living room looks like a day care center.  I'm much happier with the multifamily bedroom.  I think #2 will fit in ok for now, with a sidecar style co-sleeper on one side of the bed.  Once they're a little bigger I think we'll try to put them into one room together, but for now  I can't imagine going back and forth to a nursery in the middle of the night no matter how beautifully decorated!

I've been looking at nursery pictures all afternoon now!  Yikes!  It's like porn!

FINALLY finished!!! biggrinbounce.gif In my humble opinion, the pictures don't really do the room justice, and some of them are a little blurry because I tried to use mostly the natural lighting of the room, but you get the gist...

Here's one of the walls with the glider rocker...

Can I move into your baby's room????? SUPER CUTE!

No nursery for us. This is baby #4 and we are in a 3 bedroom house, so all the real estate is already spoken for :) Our bedroom is not really big enough for a nook either, so we just have a very small dresser tucked off to the side of our dresser and that is pretty much it.

Thanks, Erika! I feel really lucky to be able to have this baby room. I know that a nursery isn't something you *need*, and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time snuggling up with your new addition, wherever it is. luxlove.gif  It's funny because even though I knew full well that she won't be sleeping in that nursery for a while, I still really, really wanted to finish it before she arrived. Crazy nester right here! energy.gif
