Almost 4yr old boy suddenly chewing and sucking fingers

My son has started sticking his finger(s) into his mouth and gnawing on them. Without saying much about him or any background, what would be your first thoughts on this behavior?

My guess would be he is getting molars.  My 5yr old started doing that sort of business when she was about 4.5 or so. Now at 5.5 she has all 4 molars mostly erupted. They apparently take FOREVER.

Might want to break out the amber necklace if you have one or hazel...

He actually still wears his amber necklace from infancy everyday. So he has 20 teeth right now, are there more molars coming?
