I have a pair of jeans and I want to sew a long panel from a tapestry down the side of each leg.  I don't have a machine.  I thought I'd sew the strip of tapestry into a tube with a seam on the inside, then sew it on the pants.  Does that sound like the way to do it?

Also, I'd love to use embroidery floss to make big, sloppy, colorful stitches along the panel.  Can I just use the embroidery floss instead of regular thread?  Will it hold up in the wash?  How many strands of floss should be involved?  I don't want the needle holes letting the cold in--is that even a concern?

Also, I have a lot of experience with thread breaking on a project I've sewn, later.  Is this poor quality thread?  How do you judge the quality of a thread?

Got another project with questions, too, so I'm off to make another thread.  Thanks for any help!Â
