Winter IVF Thread : Bring on the BFPs! - Page 52

Vegan & Gale - My RE does 2 day transfers b/c he wants to get them back into their original environment as fast as possible.  The 2nd opinion Dr i had, who does day 5 or blast transfers, said that a day 2 or 3 transfer is just to make it easier for an RE to make his schedule but I'm not sure if I fully believe it.

Silver - Awesome numbers again!!!!  So excited for you!!! Praying all goes well for you on Monday!  How is it going with the boss and what is upcoming?  Glad you are feeling better too.  Keep us posted.

Aura - how did the baseline & u/s go and what did your RE have to say??  Hope it went well!! Thinking of you and sending lots of hug2.gif  your way!!!!

Belly, Renavoo & Kewpie - always good to see you grads back on this side!!!!!!  grouphug.gif

Gale - How are you feeling?  You done with the bedrest & when is your beta???

Hope4life - Welcome!!!  Sorry we are meeting you here but I sure hope your stay here is short and sweet!!!  Glad you found an RE that you like....that is really important, I feel.

rcr - Last BCP on Sunday right???  It's a good day - my B-day!!!!!

Praying - how are you??

AFM - My E2 was good and we are on our way.  I have never been told before what it was, but this time she said it was a 12 which I guess is low.  My lupron dose was lowered to 10 units  & I started Prednisone  yesterday too.   At 7:15pm Thurs night my RE called me -  He is so sweet!!  He must have been calling me from his home.  We are going to be doing a SET and I think it is going to be on Friday March 9th.  I'm suppose to have my intralipid treatment before my FET and it seems that it is going to fall right on the week that I'm scheduled to cover for someone at work full time, so now I am going to have to figure that all out.  Grrrr!!!  Why can't this all just be simple and easy!  I guess life would be boring if it was easy!!  So that is the scoop for now.

Blue: I'm so excited for you! This is all finally happening!!! March will be here so soon!

My old RE did 2 day transfers if there were few embies. My current RE only does 3 or 5. I asked for a 2 day when I heard we only had 1 embryo but they said they just didn't do it.

Silver and Blue, YAH to getting dates for your retrievals/transfers! I can't wait to follow you ladies through your 2WW :o)

Blue, it'll all work out in terms of timing. Although, I'm with you! Why can't it just be easier? HAHA I think I enjoy the boring life.  ;o)

Vegan & Renavoo - thanks!!!  I'm excited to to get things moving here!!

Renavoo - Yes, I think I will start Estrace this coming Tues!!! Sorry i know you asked me on the other side but figured I'd answer here since I'm was already writing you.

AFM - I forgot to mention this on my last post above that my 2nd opinion Dr said this about DHEA which doesn't give me a warm feeling since I used DHEA w/ that last fresh cycle to create this last 3 embies I have frozen now, but who knows.  I know we have talked a lot on here about DHEA and I know all Drs have different opinions, but figured I'd share b/c this is an opinion i have not heard before about DHEA.

"DHEA metabolizes to testosterone in the ovary. Too much testosterone (especially in older women and thaose with DOR has  a   deleterious effect on egg development. You are better off not taking it, in my opinion."

?? for you ladies - What does your RE recommend for after an ET w/ lifting????  My RE says not to lift more than 10lbs.  With our next transfer it is going to be rough b/c I have been so busy w/ work and I'm possibly going to have to work some after our transfer unless I can figure a way out of it and I'm really torn on this requirement.  Thoughts & opinions ladies??????

Blue: Mine said no lifting over like 5 lbs. But I have a 30 lb daughter and lifted/carried her a ton. I did not lift her for the 3 days of bedrest though.

Blue, can you get a doctor's note? Can your job offer modifications for you so you don't need to lift? I was really paranoid and careful about lifting, but I don't know how careful I needed to be. I'm so excited for you to get started, and SO rooting for you!!! goodvibes.gif

I lurk daily to check on you ladies, and I hope everybody gets their BFP soon! grouphug.gif You ladies are so deserving and so full of love for your future babies!

Vegan - wow, 5 lbs!!!  I thought 10lbs was tough.  I didn't even know until i really started to think about it & I put our laundry basket on the scale in the bathroom and found out that it was 14lbs.  That really made me start to think a little more about all the heavy things I lift.

Tear - It's kinda hard to explain, but I work kinda for myself for 3 different companies, so I can make my own schedule.  I started this when we first started our IVF journey b/c w/ my job and having to lift patients after a transfer i can't just keep taking 2 weeks off every other month w/ Fresh and FET's (i'm sure my work wouldn't go for that every other month) and the timing was just right for me to try it this way anyways, so that is when I switched my work status to this to be more flexible.  Anyways, back to my point, where I'm working now mostly it is a little less lifting so i may be able to limit myself more, but just recently they let their other "contract" person kinda go b/c she took 2 weeks off and they were frustrated about it.  So now I'm just a little worried b/c the position works great for me & I know I could really use the work especially if we are going to have to head down the adoption route and need to save lots of money if God forbid these next FET's don't work out.  I might try to take like 5-6 days in a row off after the transfer and then tell them that i can work at the end of that next week and try to limit myself if I can.  We will see.  The hard thing is that if someone you are walking w/ starts to fall if is hard not to try and catch them which would be way more than 10lbs for sure.  Hopefully I won't have to deal w/ that.  Thanks for your input though and it was a good idea.  Hope you are well and  your little girl is doing good too!!!  Love to see your name pop up again!!! hug.gif

Blue - yay for a date! I updated you on the front page. Yes, I stopped BCP this morning. I am excited to be moving forward. My suppression check is Tuesday. Sorry about the conflict at work. I have a few conflicts myself. It is hard for me to miss work on one of the days that I think my retrieval will be. Oh well, this is more important than work, so I will just have to deal with it. That info about the DHEA is kinda worrysome. I have been on it for about 5 months, I thought it was supposed to improve egg quality. Grrr. Why can't these doctors get it straight!  As for lifting, I think it was something like 20 lbs. Maybe 10 lbs - I forgot exactly, but it was lighter than my DS is, and when I did IVF before I was worried about lifting him into his car seat. I had to do it, so I just did. I tried to lift his really quickly, but I did not follow the doctor's orders exactly on this, because I really didn't have a choice. Now he is older and able to climb into his car sear himself, so I think I will be able to follow it more closely.

Tear! Hi. xoxox

Gale - congrats on a wonderful transfer and for having so many to freeze. I am amazed by women who respond so well! what your RE said is exactly why I pushed my RE to do a 3-day transfer for me. Last time I only had one embie left to transfer at day 5.

Silver - crossing my fingers for tomorrow for you!

Aura - hugs to you

Hope 4 - congrats on finding an RE that you like. I wish I had more choices.

Grads - hi! Thanks for popping in, and for the support!

AFM - like I said above. last BCP was today, and my suppression check is Tuesday.

Gale and Vegan: My clinic prefers 5 or even 6 day transfers but I’m really nervous about this.  Unless I get a huge number of eggs I think I’ll request a three day.  I’d much rather have to go for several FET’s because we don’t know the quality of the embies that risk it all on a 5 day.

Blue: To be honest things just get worse with my boss.  I’m now in trouble because of my attitude and sometimes it seems like I don’t want to be there.  Well who wants to be somewhere they are criticised and picked on! I’ve been coming to work even when I’m ill or down and now I’m being criticised for not putting in a stella performance and being full of the joys of spring when I’m working while ill and depressed.  I’m really worried that it’s going from criticising me on concrete things I can change to subjective things like toilet breaks and attitude.  I’m going to talk to my union again.  Glad you’ve got a date for your FET and some extra meds that might help.  Sorry that it will make life difficult with work.  Hmm my doc has me taking both DHEA and testosterone which she says helps with egg quality.  The lifiting is difficult I hadn’t even thought of that.  Could someone else be with you when you have a patient who might fall?

Renavoo: thanks!

Rcr: thanks, hope the suppression has worked better for you this time.

AFM: Just looking forward to egg collection Monday! My ovary was still high on Fri so I hope it’s not a prob, I’ve been doing lots of star jumps.  I just got a letter from the NHS clinic to say they will be taking my case to a heads of department meeting on 22 feb.  I’m really surprised but it would be great if I could get funding if this cycle doesn’t work.  They say going from couple to single is a change of circumstances and needs a new referral which I think is fair enough but why did no-one tell me this last May so I could have my new referral in May 2011 instead of Nov 2011?

hi ladies!  will come back for personals in a bit but wanted to share the info i learned on friday.

i was able to speak to the RE i like on friday and we had a great talk.  really great.  she gave me the option of doing one more iui, or skipping ahead and trying another ivf.  they drs discussed my case and they would like to try ivf with estrace priming.  she said there are new studies that show that in younger women they are finding estrace priming creates better quality eggs.  hooray!  she reminded me that there is always a chance it won't produce results, but that they think this is going to be beneficial.  basically once i got my period, i would come back on cycle day 21 to start the estrace.  i'd take it through the following period, and while i'm on the stims, up through the ivf.  basically while you can't change the quality of the eggs you were born with, you can change the environment that the eggs are grown in, which can alter the quality.  i'm glad we are trying a different protocol, because i was afraid of having a repeat of the last two ivfs.  i also finally remembered to ask the one question that was driving me crazy.   she's mentioned that my hormones were all out of whack, but i never knew how exactly.  now i know!  my LH is higher than my FSH instead of the 1:1 ratio.  textbook PCOS.  i am still amazed that none of my past drs have ever been able to figure this out.  this is also why i guess she never recommended DHEA or any supplements.  those reduce FSH but my FSH is fine.  for reducing LH they recommend exercise to get blood flowing to the ovaries, accupuncture, and weight loss.

after hearing all of my options, i chose to do one more iui cycle before going into the estrace priming month.  it will give me a chance lose some more weight before the ivf, and i figure since i have lost some weight, it's worth it to have one more shot before going into a really intense ivf cycle.  i started shots again on friday.  two iuis in one month seems a little insane to me, but at least it's something to do. i'm also going to kick my diet into super speed.  my mom's party was this weekend and while it was a great success, i ate a bit of food i wouldn't normally eat, and i feel nauseated because of it!  i can't wait to go back to a simple and clean diet.  i also never thought i'd hear myself saying that!

Aura: I did estrogen priming for my cycle. :-) I know a number of gals who've had success with it.  I didn't know it was to improve egg quality though - just to get more follicles to respond to the meds and to grow at the same rate (rather than using lupron and BCPs to prevent a lead follicle from growing).

vegan- that gives me hope!!  i've never had a problem responding to meds, and until my last iui i've never had a lead follicle.... i think because of the pcos i am just in need of extra estrogen.  but i like the fact that already i see a success story!  did you have any side effects from the estrogen?  i've only taken it post ivf with progesterone, so i don't know which hormone led to which symptoms.

also rcr, can't wait to hear for your update! it's moving along now!  same for you blue!  the last iui i had wound up concluding before yours started, but i may catch you guys with this iui i'm doing now.  it will be nice to have 2ww buddies!

Aura: I didn't really have side effects from the estrogen. I felt a little more vibrant and revved up on it - like when I was younger. LOL. But nothing bad. I'm still on estrace 3x/day and in a suppository, but along with progesterone now. Oh I think it contributes to my boobs being sore too, but tha's about it. :-)
