Doc wants to dilate my eyes but I'm still nursing, advice?

So I have been having some minor eye issues, floaters and some flashes of light. I went to get a retinal scan because my last eye doc said that was safe and to hold off on dilation due to breastfeeding, I'm still nursing my 14 month old. So the retinal scan looked good, then she looked into the back of my eyes with a light, all good there. But she said I have signs of retinal tears or detachment and really wants to dilate my eyes. She also said there are no studies of the safety on the drops.

I don't have a Hale manual (need to get one) and I wanna know, how safe is it? Has anyone ever heard of anyone's nursling having side effects? Any of you mamas have your eyes dilated and nurse the same day? I am gonna call tomorrow to find out the name of the drops so I can get more info. Thanks!

Anecdotal information: I had my eyes dilated recently and nursed my toddler about an hour later. I didn't see any issues with him as a result.

Call the InfantRisk hotline www.infantrisk.com. It's a free service from Texas Tech University and the department is headed by Hale. Also, please share the hotline information with your doctor - the word needs to get out so that medical professionals know they have a reliable source for information about the safety of drugs while breastfeeding and stop telling women they need to pump and dump or stop breastfeeding unnecessarily!

I have had my eyes dilated while nursing. Honestly it didn't even cross my mind that I couldn't and the eye dr didn't say anything. My child is fine. : )
