ICI at home? What kind of syringe to use?

Hello,

I'm new here and I have a question.  My partner and I are trying with an ICI for the first time next week.  We are using frozen sperm from a cryobank.

My question:  We bought a normal 10ml syringe from a pharmacy, but it is just doesn't work.  No matter how much I relax it just doesn't work.

I ordered 1cc syringes from amazon and they arrived today.  My concern is that the 1cc syringe is too small, the opening is very small and I wonder if we can use them or if we would damage the sperm?  It is the same length as the 10ml syringe, just much smaller.

My question did anyone here successfully used a 1cc syringe for a home ICI before?

Thanks so much!

Welcome to MDC!!  wave.gif  I'm sorry you haven't gotten any responses.  I personally do not know anything about insemination and syringes, but I might suggest re-posting in the Infertility forum as well.  I do know there are several other women that have down self-insemination that frequent this forum, so just keep bumping your post until you hear from them!  Good luck!

Hi there,

My partner and I just tried also on Nov 12th, but unfortunately i got my period on Nov 23rd...bummer...We are trying again on Dec 6th.    We use a 1cc syringe.  Its what the Cryo bank gave use.  Just make sure you draw up all the seamen in the little vial and push out any air bubbles..  Also, when you insert it, push the seamen in very very slowly or else it comes right back out..  keep in touch and let me know how it goes  Rainbow.gif

Good Luck..Debbie

My DD was conceived with an at home insemination and I'm currently working on number 2! We use a 5 cc oral syringe that we just asked for at our pharmacy....it was 45 cents or something. Works like a charm.

There is a queer parenting forum on here where people have LOTS of info and help regarding all different methods and tips for at home or in clinic inseminations. Check it out and good luck!

Hi Debbie & Carmen,

my partner and I used the 1cc and it also worked for us.  Our Cryo Bank didn't give us a syringe, but it was good that we bought the small ones over amazon, because the normal drug store syringe wouldn't even fit in the small container the sperm is came in.

We tried on November 24th for the first time and are still waiting.  I already have cramps, which are probably period related, but I'm still hoping.

Good Luck for your next try!
